Registro Aurelia - An Austrian Divertimento for classic Lancias
Catching admiring and sometimes envious glances, the Registro Aurelia explored southern austrian country roads.
The Registro Aurelia, on its annual spring outing, did 1000 km in 3 days on the roads of South Tyrol, Kärnten and Steiermark, in scenic valleys and picturesque villages.
And if fortune smiles to the daring, our changing climate must have thought that the Registro was very brave : it gracefully authorized the convertible cars to open up and taste the fresh mountain air.
The entry list was fully booked and many members arrived from all over Italy, Switzerland, Blegium, Germany and England.
23 impressive cars were present, of which 3 B24 spider, many B24 convertibile, B50 cabriolet, B10 and B22 berlina, B20 coupe from 2nd to 6th series, and also a special mention for a very special Flaminia Sport Zagato 3C, the legitimate daughter of the Aurelia clan.
On June 6th the group met at an Ortisei hotel in the Dolomites, from which it took a cablecar to Resciesa Hut, to enjoy a dinner in front of the majestic Dolomite background of SassoLungo, accompanied by deers and chamois.
On the morning of the 7th the drivers followed the val Pusteria, going through Bressanone, Dobiacco, San Candido, and crossed the austrian border at Prato alla Drava, before arriving at our lunch stop, Weissensee.
After a scenic lunch the teams drove further to Portschach, where - this time without cars - they enjoyed a boat trip at sunset on the Woerthersee, to get different views on the scenery, all around the lake.
Saturday 8th we joined after a short (and fast) run on the motorway the village of Piber, where the stud raising Lippizaner horses for the Vienna riding school is located. The visit of the stud gave the drivers a different feeling of the meaning of horsepower ! From there the group relocated for a scenic lunch to Gamlitz, near Glanz an der Weinstrasse (the well named wine road), on the border between Austria and Slovenia, over hills, valleys, forests, with magnificent glimpses of farms and lovely vineyards extending to the horizon.
The way back to Portschach over hilly but fast roads, with some hairpins, tested the driver's skills, if not the Aurelias capabilities.
On breakfast on Sunday 9th it was time finally to say goodbye, hoping to meet in the not too distant future to once again enjoy our companies and our cars which faithfully took us over this trip of 1000 km (for some not counting the distance back to home).
