Great Basin National Park Must See Sights
Great Basin National Park is one of the more remote national parks in the lower 48 states, but it's got its unique appeal. Bristlecone Pines, Lehman Caves. and dark sky at night are the main attractions. These attractions with the majestic Wheeler Peak, are well worth the visit, especially given the sparse crowd.

Great Basin National Park
Recorded June 3, 2019
Great Basin National Park is in eastern Nevada near the Utah border. It's in the Great Basin Desert and contains most of the South Snake mountains. In the north, the mountain-hugging Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive leads to towering Wheeler Peak. Nearby is one of several ancient bristlecone pine groves. The marble Lehman Caves have distinctive stalactites and other formations. Park wildlife includes bighorn sheep.

The Loneliest Road in America: Pony Express, Great Basin National Park
U.S. Route 50 stretches over 3,000 miles from Ocean City, Maryland in the east to Sacramento, California in the West. Originally part of the U.S. Highway system created in 1926, it was a major transportation route until the creation of the Interstate Highway system in 1956. In 1986, Life Magazine nicknamed the Nevada portion of Route 50 “The Loneliest Road in America,” noting that it is “America minus tourist traps” with only three small towns in 400 miles of empty desert.
I wanted to experience “The Loneliest Road in America” for myself, so I drove west to east from Carson City to the small town of Baker near the Nevada-Utah border. While it is true that the route is pretty desolate, its winding mountain passes and long, open stretches of desert valleys tell the story of a time in American history dominated by Manifest Destiny, Westward Expansion and a Gold Rush. U.S. Route 50 parallels the iconic Pony Express route and you can visit the remains of a few outpost stations to this day. Just off Route 50 in the east, in between the cities of Ely and Baker, lies the beautiful Great Basin National Park – home to the mesmerizing Lehman Caves.

Great Basin National Park -- Adventure on America's Loneliest Road in Nevada
Great Basin National Park is a real stunner located on I50 -- America's Loneliest Road -- in Nevada's Basin and Range. The scenery ranges from the desert floor, to centuries old bristlecone pines, to pristine glacial lakes, to wonderful waterfalls, to a palatial glacial cirque, to towering mountaintops. The hikes vary from easy to strenuous. In fact, the Wheeler Peak hike looks easy until you're actually on the trail. After a mile, the surface becomes broken rock, then (at least when we were there in July) a little snow. The last mile of very sharp switchbacks take you straight up to the peak. The reward, as you'll see in this video, is enormously worth it, but it's best for people who are fit and can cope with the reduced oxygen at 13,159 feet. When you visit, absolutely set aside time for the Lehman Cave tour, too. The stalactites, stalagmites and shield formations rival the finest sculpture and the park service tour guides are cheery and knowledgable. Camping in Great Basin National Park was a thrill that we plan to repeat next summer and every time we find ourselves on America's Loneliest Road. Larry Richardson created this video for RichardsonArtPhotographyStore.com using an iPhone 7 and iMovie.
Top Tourist Attractions in Nevada, Most 48 Beautiful Places to travel In Nevada
Nevada (Spanish for blanketed; see elocutions) is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern districts of the United States of America. Nevada is the seventh most broad, the 34th most crowded, and the ninth slightest thickly populated of the 50 United States. Almost seventy five percent of Nevada's kin live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area[6] where three of the state's four biggest fused urban communities are located.[7] Nevada's capital is Carson City. Nevada is authoritatively known as the Silver State as a result of the significance of silver to its history and economy. It is otherwise called the Fight Born State, since it accomplished statehood amid the Civil War (the words Fight Born likewise show up on the state hail); as the Wise brush State, for the local plant of a similar name; and as the Wise hen State.[8] Nevada fringes Oregon toward the northwest, Idaho toward the upper east, California toward the west, Arizona toward the southeast and Utah toward the east.
