1. Wies Church Steingaden
The Pilgrimage Church of Wies is an oval rococo church, designed in the late 1740s by brothers J. B. and Dominikus Zimmermann, the latter of whom lived nearby for the last eleven years of his life. It is located in the foothills of the Alps, in the municipality of Steingaden in the Weilheim-Schongau district, Bavaria, Germany. It is said that, in 1738, tears were seen on a dilapidated wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour. This miracle resulted in a pilgrimage rush to see the sculpture. In 1740, a small chapel was built to house the statue but it was soon realized that the building would be too small for the number of pilgrims it attracted, and so Steingaden Abbey decided to commission a separate shrine. Romantic Road - Southern Germany

In the late fifties of last century, I went by train from Hohenpeissenberg to Weilheim and travelled via Augsburg and Donauwörth to Dillingen at the Danube river, where my parents booked me in a boarding school of the Order of Saint Benedict to get secondary education and finally become a missionary for the OSB. Early summer 1959 the monks organized a bus trip along the Romantic Road, a major tourist attraction of Southern Germany. I was quite impressed by the medieval legacy of my homeland and enjoyed the sunny day.

New Year 2018 Fireworks at Burj Al Arab

Burj Al Arab in Dubai is a beautifully architected building in itself. There is a firework show organised every year during the new years eve. This video was clicked using my Sony HDR-CX405 handy-cam. Not known for great low-light captures, but did pretty well here.

Altenstadt bei Schongau liegt im Pfaffenwinkel, noch in Oberbayern, aber sprachlich schon dem Allgäu zugewandt.
Von den Römern schon besucht, die über die Via Claudia die oberitalienische Stadt Verona mit der Schwabenmetropole Augsburg verbanden.

Die über die Landesgrenzen hinaus hoch angesehene Basilika St. Michael wurde ca 1220 fertiggestellt und erstrahlt nach diversen Renovierungen in neuem Glanz.

Bekannt wurde Altenstadt durch die Luftlande- und -transportschule, die den Himmel mit
grauen und bunten Fallschirmen schmückt.

Der Nachthimmel über Aalen gen Norden am 25.06.2015

Nachdem für diese Nacht Polarlichter über Deutschland gemeldet waren, hielt ich mich zwischen Mitternacht und 3.30 Uhr in der Früh auf dem Härtsfeld in Aalen-Simmisweiler auf. Dort hatte man einen fantastischen Blick auf die Sterne. Leider sah ich kein Polarlicht, doch die Testaufnahmen ergaben dann dieses kurze Zeitraffer Video des Sternenhimmels gegen 2.30/3.00 Uhr. Die Kamera war gen Norden gerichtet, um das Polarlicht ja nicht zu verpassen. Die Aufnahmen fanden alle 2,5 Minuten statt und dauerten je eine Minute. Daher sind die Sterne auch verschwommen, weil sie sich bereits in dieser kurzen Zeit bewegen. Viel Spaß beim Anschauen!
