The community of Jonsdorf is located in the south of the Kreis Görlitz in the southeast of the German federal state of Saxony. It is embedded into a valley of the Zittau Mountains, part of the Lusatian Mountains.

1. Saxon Switzerland National Park Saxony
Saxon Switzerland is a hilly climbing area and national park around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic it forms the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Saxon Switzerland alone has some 1,000 climbing peaks, as well as several hollows. The area is popular with Dresden locals and international climbers. The administrative district for the area is Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. The fortress of Königstein is a well-known landmark.

Zittau to Jonsdorf - 2002 - German Narrow Gauge Vol. 3 - Part 1

PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION:

Part 1 - Zittau to Jonsdorf

In 2002 we visited Zittau, Germany. Zittau is a town almost on
the Polish border. The narrow gauge line runs from Zittau to Bertsdorf. From Bertsdorf trains either run to Jonsdorf or Oybin. Both towns are resort towns, though we found Oybin to be more beautiful.

The line rosters the 2-10-2T’s. These engines at one time were
converted to burn a light weight oil, but have since been converted
back to coal.

Zittau Steam Railway, Saxony, Southern Germany Sept 2014

This trip was part of the Great Railway Journeys 'Saxony by Steam' holiday.
The line (750 mm gauge) runs from Zittau to Oybin & Jonsdorf and is about 10 miles in length. The line splits at Bertsdorf and the trains are often timed to leave here at the same time as we experienced during our visit.
