It has been nicknamed the Naples of the Eastern world for its bay location , hot climate, and emblematic stratovolcano, Sakurajima. The city was officially founded on April 1, 1889.

  • 2. Tanegashima Space Center Kumage Gun Minamitane Cho
    The Tanegashima Space Center is the largest rocket-launch complex in Japan with a total area of about 9,700,000 square meters. It is located on the south east coast of Tanegashima, an island approximately 40 km south of Kyushu. It was established in 1969 when the National Space Development Agency of Japan was formed, and is now run by JAXA. It is claimed to be one of the most beautiful rocket-launch complexes in the world due to the natural scenery and view of the Pacific Ocean.The activities that take place at TNSC include assembly, testing, launching, and tracking satellites, as well as rocket engine firing tests.

  • 3. Uchinoura Space Center Kimotsuki Cho
    Uchinoura was a town located in Kimotsuki District, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 4,577 and a density of 25.52 persons per km². The total area was 179.36 km². On July 1, 2005, Uchinoura, along with the town of Kōyama , was merged to create the town of Kimotsuki. The Uchinoura Space Center is named after the town and was built before the merger.
