Scenic drive from Finnish Lapland to the Lofoten Islands, Norway

Great drive experience, beautiful scenery and impressive roads from Kilpisjärvi (Lapland, Finland) to Svolvær (Lofoten Islands, Norway) north of the Arctic Circle.

Kilpisjärvi ( is the northwesternmost Lapland village in Finland, and the last village before the border of Norway close to the Arctic Ocean.

Svolvær is the main town and port of the Lofoten island group ( in Nordland county, Norway. Svolvær is a good starting point to explore the Lofoten archipelago.

The drive was about 450 km and 7 hours. It took place in March.

Route:

Start from Arctic Polar Holiday Village in Kilpisjärvi (
E8 up north from Kilpisjärvi, the famous Saana fell on the right - crossing the border to Norway.
E6 to the west to Bjerkvik - E10 to the Tjeldsund Bridge.
After the Tjeldsund Bridge road 83 to the north - shortcut road Gate 1490 - back to road 83 to Refsnes.
Refsnes to Flesnes ferry (
Road 83/85 - back to the E10 road to Svolvær.
End in Svinøya Rorbuer in Svolvær harbor (

The fastest way is to follow the E10 road from the Tjeldsund Bridge to Svolvær.

Spending a Night in the Lapland Mountains

Night in the mountains Lapland // I started the hike at 10PM and it took me a little less than 2 hours to reach the mountain top. I rushed straight away to the west side to film the Norwegian mountains bathing in the midnight sun. I spent there over an hour filming and enjoying the INCREDIBLE view. The clock was already way past midnight but the sun was shining in the horizon pushing me to the other side of the mountain to see the amazing view from the valley. The river divided Finland and Norway, Finland being on the left and Norway on the right. I'm really scared of heights but when I got to the cliff all my fears were gone. The feeling when you have hiked several hours and reach something so remarkably beautiful the moment feels so magical. The trip lasted for almost 7 hours since it got me over 2 hours to get down. I spent the entire night on the mountain and enjoyed every second of it. It's not every day you get to do something this incredible! The mountain was a gentle host for me the night and I fell in love with the place. It was truly something so incredible I can't put it to words and you really need to experience it yourself to feel the whole greatness!

Did you know that many Finnish newborns sleep in cardboard boxes?

All mothers get to stay at home with their baby for almost a year with full salary or excellent benefits. Free travel for newborn

When the children grow older, their luck continues – Finland has held first place in OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) for several years, ranking our education system as one of the world’s best.

This means that the Finnish school – also free of charge.

THE LARGEST ARCHIPELAGO

Finland’s coast boasts the world’s largest archipelago. It is difficult to get an exact number, but there are at least 70,000 islands.

On some, you can also find beautiful old lighthouses.

THE RAREST SEAL IN THE WORLD

Cute, huh? The Saimaa ringed seal is one of the few living freshwater seals in the world. This endangered seal has a total population of only about 310 individuals and they can only be found in Lake Saimaa – the largest lake in Finland.

THE WEIRDEST LANGUAGE*

Doubt it? Try pronouncing Äkäslompolo and you’ll soon see. The longest word is: “epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän” – quite a tongue twister – but not to Finns!


THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

Finland is a country of tall, blue-eyed “Vikings” and beautiful blonde women – one of the great reasons to visit. And stay.

A short video from our summer trip to Lapland / Finland. We set out to experience Midnight Sun - a natural phenomenon happening in the summer months in places north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle. Golden Hour lasts for 5-6h so this is any photographer's heaven.
