Places to see in ( Cap d'Agde - France )
Places to see in ( Cap d'Agde - France )
Cap d'Agde is a seaside resort on the Mediterranean sea in Agde, France: a commune in the department of Hérault within the region of Languedoc-Roussillon. The area was planned by architect Jean Le Couteur as part of one of the largest state-run development schemes.[1] In the 1960s, the only buildings at the Cap were small houses that were typically used by locals over the weekends. It is now one of the largest leisure ports on the French Mediterranean.
Agde can be reached by TGV SNCF train direct from Paris or Lille whilst the closest airports are Béziers-Cap d'Agde en Languedoc, with direct budget airline services to the UK and Scandinavia, or Montpellier-Fréjorgues. Public transport (taxi or bus) is available between Agde and Cap d'Agde.
The Musée de l'Ephèbe houses the bronze nude statue known as l'Ephèbe d'Agde (the Youth of Agde). The statue was discovered in the River Hérault and was housed in the Louvre Museum prior to suitable facilities being made available in Cap d'Agde to house it.
Cap d'Agde is the 'resort' part of Agde, a pleasant Languedoc town a little distance to the north. It is east of Beziers and south-west of Montpellier. The resort has been almost entirely built since the late 1960's at the foot of an ancient volcano and based around a large marina lined with nice apartment blocks, and has easy access to large sandy beaches.

The Lazaret and Corniche beaches are the closest to the city center. The Villeroy beach has several beach bars and extends to Marseillan-Plage. The Fontain and Lido beaches have recently been widened by close to 100 meters and offer an exceptional view on the sea.

Chez Obélix Buffet in Marseillan Plage France
Chez Obélix Buffet in Marseillan Plage France. Normally a pizzeria restaurant, in the summer it appears to turn into an all you can eat buffet, French style. Located on the busy strip in Marseillan Plage, it is a great place to have a dinner when staying at one of the campings. We were at Camping Les Mediterranees Floride Beach Club Nouvelle, just a 10 minute walk away - lovely on a warms summers evening! Super ambiance! Camargue (France) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Camargue in France.
The unique landscape of the region along the Rhone Delta in France known as the Camargue is relatively young. It is believed that it grew to its present size of approximately ninety five thousand hectares in around 8,000 B.C.A number of the region's inhabitants are as famous as the landscape of the South of France such as the famous white horses of the Camargue. Bulls are extremely popular with the local inhabitants. They are often the centre of attention during the region's mostly non-bloody bull fights known as 'Corridas'.Up to the end of September the farmland of the Camargue's rice farmers is flooded with water up to twenty centimetres deep but there are also colourful fields with an abundance of sunflowers. However, the cultivation of rice also has its drawbacks. Due to the increasing desalinisation of the land the fragile ecosystem is gradually being undermined. However, the people of the Camargue are well aware of this danger to their wildlife and are actively engaged in preserving their unique world of swamps. Thus the natural colours of the Camargue and its captivating, charismatic inhabitants will continue to enchant visitors for many more years to come.
