One day trip to Metung and Lake Entrance, Victoria Australia Part 1
Hi everyone,
Metung Village is tucked away, like a well kept secret, in a peaceful corner of the Gippsland Lakes.
Metung offers a true escape, a chance to share simple pleasures. It’s both incredibly romantic and fabulous for families.
Metung is a beautiful place to stay. A tiny village set in the heart of the Gippsland Lakes, with its history steeped in boats, fishing and gentle lifestyles. A village that has always drawn those seeking a special holiday. It’s a place that gives you time to recall the simple pleasures of life.
Stroll along the boardwalk and watch the yachts fly by, or set up your deckchair for a spot of fishing. Dine in the sunshine, or swim at the Metung beach. And there are lots of ways to explore the surrounding waterways: bring your own boat, hire one here, or join a cruise.

MUST SEE! SECRET METUNG IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET in this picture-book perfect region of the Gippsland Lakes. Accommodation is still very well priced compared to similar places in this part of the world. You will pay far more for accommodation in nearby Lakes Entrance which has become iconic in the minds of regular visitors. A one hour drive from Lakes Entrance lies a jewel yet to be properly appreciated and explored.
A day in Metung on a glorious day is like a day in paradise. The brilliant blue water reflecting the surrounding buildings like a mirror dazzles the senses with it's beauty.
We stayed at the Moorings in Metung pictured here. We were delighted with the sophistication and culinary delights we sampled at Bancroft Bites with its distinctive logo of three fish. Perfect for dinner or lunch.
Metung is a country town situated in East Gippsland snuggled between Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance. Activities are water sports and inspiring art galleries.
The atmosphere in Metung is of a peaceful village with spectacular water vistas dotted with yachts and leisure water craft silent as the air fills with the songs of the native birds waking with the new day. The pier stands in silhouette against the rising sun whose reflection melts into the brilliant blue of the calm sea. A fisherman tends his rod and breaks the silence momentarily as he casts his rod deftly into the water.
Metung has not historically been seen as the place to spent a summer holiday but as more people discover the many delights on offer, it is bound to become a popular destination for vacationers and retirees.
