It comprises the urban districts of Ningbo proper, three satellite cities, and a number of rural counties including islands in Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea. Its port, spread across several locations, is among the busiest in the world and the municipality possesses a separate state-planning status. Mount Putuo is one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism, the others being Mount Wutai, Mount Jiuhua, and Mount Emei . Mount Putuo lies in the East China Sea and incorporates the beauty of both mountain and sea. Its area is approximately 12.5 square kilometres and there are numerous famous temples.
