Villa Monastero is located in Varenna, Province of Lecco, on the shore of Lake Como. The villa lies south of the village, halfway between Varenna and Fiumelatte, and includes a botanical garden, a museum, and a convention center. VS. In the Piave River Valley where the town of Longarone used to be, now the wooden buildings are smashed and all that can be seen are pieces of wood like matchsticks strewn across the valley. VS. The mud covered valley with rescue work in progress. VS. The valley with half of its buildings still standing on the higher ground, railway lines are bent and twisted. MS.
