Travel Spain - Exploring the Medieval Town of Peratallada
Take a tour of Spanish Town of Peratallada in Peratallada, Spain -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
While gazing upon the north eastern Spanish town of Peratallada, it is easy to see why its name means carved stone.
The cobbled streets of this walled medieval town wind like a maze through the buildings.
The stones of these ancient structures have been worn by the passing of years, but they are still beautiful.
The outer walls of this city remain from its medieval era, when it was necessary for even small towns to be strongly fortified.
This monochromatic town affords visitors such landmarks as its Romanesque church, built in the thirteenth century.
Peratallada has a powerful sense of history and authenticity, and is a uniquely magical place.
TOP 7 BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN CATALONIA
Catalonia has been in the news for a couple of months. First the overtourism protests, then the fight for independence. Since the political tensions have not yet been resolved the region’s tourism industry has felt the impact. The international flight bookings fell 17 percent since Oct 1. Many tourists are rebooking trips to other parts of Spain. The revenue from tourism in October is estimated to decrease by 15 percent. Nevertheless, Barcelona still remains one of the most popular destinations for international tourists. Catalonia offers much more than the fabulous city though. Since it was our first trip to Spain and the Costa Brava region we thought we'd team up with Blue Compass Tours - Barcelona. We were taken on a surprise tour of the region where we got to experience the amazing coastline, a high-end restaurant, and a medieval village. If you're looking for things to do in Costa Brava be sure to watch the whole vlog.
The surprise tour started with a boat tour in the Mediterranean. The coastline is amazing and there are plenty of fauna to enjoy. Next, the guys at Blue Compass Tours - Barcelona took us to the Es Portal Restaurant ( Es Portal is a gourmet restaurant with eight rooms and one suite with views over the magnificent landscape of the Empordà region. The building is housed in a completely refurbished 16th-century farmhouse which has preserved the constructive features of the Gothic Renaissance period.
To finish the tour in Costa Brava, we went to the medieval village of Peratallada ( The fortified town is concentrated on top of a huge natural sandstone rock, artificially carved to give height (hence the name “pedra tallada” or carved stone). At the top, we find the Castle (11th century, but with signs that there might have been an earlier structure), with its Keep Tower and Palace.

Where is Costa Brava?
Costa Brava stretches from the town of Blanes, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.
