Amboise, Indre-et-Loire, Centre, France, Europe
Amboise is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France. It lies on the banks of the Loire River, 17 miles (27 km) east of Tours. Today a small market town, it was once home of the French royal court. The town of Amboise is also only about 11 miles (18 km) away from the historic Château de Chenonceau, situated on the Cher River near the small village of Chenonceaux. Its former name was Ambacia, from the old name of the river and marsh Amasse. The city is famous for the Clos Lucé manor house where Leonardo da Vinci lived (and ultimately died) at the invitation of King Francis I of France, whose Château d'Amboise, which dominates the town, is located just 500 metres away. The narrow streets contain some good examples of timbered housing.
Just outside of the city is the Pagode de Chanteloup, a 44 metre tall Chinese Pagoda built in 1775 by the Duke of Choiseul. The Pagoda is seven levels high, with each level slightly smaller than the last one. An interior staircase to reach all levels is open to the public. The Musée de la Poste (in the Hôtel Joyeuse) is a museum tracing the history of the postal delivery service. A 19th-century fountain by John Oswald of a turtle topped by a teddy bear figure, standing in front of the spot where the markets are held. Clovis I (c. 466--511) and the Visigoths signed a peace treaty of alliance with the Arvernians in 503, which assisted him in his defeat of the Visigothic kingdom in the Battle of Vouillé in 507.
Joan of Arc passed through in 1429 on her way to Orleans to the Battle of Patay. The Amboise conspiracy was the conspiracy of Condé and the Huguenots in 1560 against Francis II, Catherine de' Medici, and the Guises. The Edict of Amboise (1563) conceded the free exercise of worship to the Protestants. The chateau at Amboise was home to Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots, for much of her early life, being raised there at the French court of Henry II. She arrived in France from Scotland in 1548, aged six, via the French king's favourite palace at Saint Germain en Laye near Paris, and remained in France until 1561, when she returned to her homeland - sailing up the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh on 15 August that year. Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life in Amboise. Some of his inventions are still there and have not been removed. The house has lost some of its original parts, but it still stands today and has a beautiful overlook of the Loire River.
Here was born in 1743 -- Louis Claude de Saint-Martin French philosopher, known as Le Philosophe Inconnu. (d. 1803). Abd el Kader Ibn Mouhi Ad-Din (c. 1807--83) was imprisoned at the Château d'Amboise.

Travel France - Tour of Amboise Chateau
Take a tour of Amboise Chateau in Amboise, France -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.
The Amboise Chateau is a grand castle with a rather spotty, but interesting, history.
It was first built in the eleventh century in order to control a nearby ford.
King Charles the 7th seized it in 1434 after its owner was convicted of treason.
Once in the hands of the French kings, it was enlarged and rebuilt.
By 1500, the Amboise Chateau was as it is today, an elaborate and majestic castle.
During the French Wars of Religion, another plot was discovered and the French Court left Amboise.
The sense of history and importance is rich about the chateau and its scenic surroundings.

Balade à Tours

A Wedding in South France, Chateau d’Estoublon
// When the Good Lord begins to doubt the world, he remembers that he created Provence //
There is something about Provence, that transports you from everyday life and makes you feel that you are living life in slow-motion. The rest of the world disappears and you are out among olive trees, lavender and vineyards, drinking wine under the stars.
It was there that Lilian and Cosmin, decided to gather friends and family from all over the world to get married.
A car crash brought them together and they have been inseparable since and you can feel the honesty, respect, devotion and deep love in their relationship.
They chose a stunning location for their wedding, Chateau d’Estoublon, one of the most remarkable sites, in the Les Baux de Provence Valley in the Alpilles area, near Fontvieille.
The day started with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, honouring Lilian’s origins.
Our bride and groom served tea, to both sides of the parents, representing an important moment in which members of both families become relatives of each other, showing respect and gratitude to parents for all the years of love and care.
Lilian started getting ready with all her bridesmaids, looking stunning, with the magic hands of Harold James in hair and makeup revealing her true beauty and in her gorgeous Oscar de la Renta dress.
Jennifer and Kerry from Lavender and Rose did an amazing job, making sure everything ran on time and looked absolutely perfect.
They transformed the chateau with the help of the talented Miss Rose by Perrine, to the most elegant, natural and romantic set-up, for the ceremony of L&C.
After a lovely ceremony, the couple made their entrance to the cocktail in a horse and carriage and later everyone gathered inside for the dinner and to party until the dawn, making it a truly magical day, that we were very happy to capture side by side with an amazing artist but also humble and fun to work with, mr Greg Finck.
Lilian and Cosmin, we feel blessed, that we shared all those moments together and you trusted us to capture them. It was really an honour to be a part of your beautiful wedding!
