EuroTrip Part Seven - Our Favourite Campsite of the Whole Trip!
In Part Seven of our European Road Trip through the Alps we arrive at a town called Lower, Austria and the absolutely incredible Camping Grubhof. This will become our favourite campsite of the whole trip. It is in a stunning location with incredible views and the best facilities we've ever come across. The weather is fantastic so we hire some electric mountain bikes and head up the mountain nearby. What a place!

Walk around Nord Sam Camping, Salzburg, Austria
The Nord-Sam campsite is named after the street where it is located which is very conveniently located for visiting Salzburg. At two minutes walk from the campsite there is a bus stop which a regular service into the city centre - a ten minute journey and there are four buses an hour during the day! But of course this is bike country - that is the welcome sign you see as you cross the border from Germany - so why not ride into town. For the fit, there is of course the option of walking and that will take around 30 minutes or so!
Nord Sam is a family run campsite with a friendly welcome and is now in its third generation. The administration building houses a small shop and cafeteria where one can sit inside or out on the terrace. Plots are very private being surrounded by hedges, all with electrical hook up. The sanitary facilities are located next to the administration building - which is where the owners also live.
There is a swimming pool which is used in summer. Other facilities include a fenced off children's playground and bike rental - what else would you expect from bike country?
Access to the site is relatively easy for those travelling by motorway as the exit is only 700 metres from the campsite.
Salzburg is not real. It is like a nineteenth century fairy story referring to another age. This is the central Europe of fairy stories and old films. Dominated by Prince Bishops for hundreds of years, their decadence has given us today the amazing castle overlooking the town, the cathedral quarter which is now a UNESCO protected heritage site, the palace of Helbrunn with its amazing trick fountains. Nature has given us the mountains which surround the city - but you can read all about that in other parts of this page!

De langste hangbrug in Europa in Tibetstijl. De hangbrug gaat over de weg naar de Fernpass bij Reutte in Oostenrijk en vormt een verbinding tussen Fort Claudia en Ruïne Ehrenberg.

There are as many places for wild swimming in the Salzburger Saalachtal as grains of sand on the beach. No question: diving in is rewarding!
Camping Jungholz, Austria
Jungholz is a sub Alpine village of some 300 inhabitants in what is effectively an Austrian exclave within Germany located at around 1050 metres. The campsite is around 200 metres from the German border and offers hill and mountain views all round with excellent cycling trails into both the Bavarian-Swabian Allgäu and the Tannheim Valley (Tannheimer Tal) in the Tyrol. To the south of the campsite is the 1638 m high Sorgschrofen mountain - it is at the peak that two Austrian and two German borders meet..
The campsite was set up in 1977 and is still run by the grand daughter of the founder with her partner. Many of the residents are long term and the amount of sites for motorhomes is limited, furthermore vehicles over 850cm would have difficulty in parking here.
The shower block is very clean and large for the size of the campsite. There is a chemical water dump where grey water can also be dumped.
