La Super Rica 622 North Milpas Street Santa Barbara
In 1980, Isidoro Gonzalez opened his family-run taqueria stand at a former fast food location on Milpas Street. The bright turquoise paint, the most distinctive aspect of the building, is like a beacon to his followers. La Super-Rica is almost cultlike and devotees will drive from Los Angeles and beyond simply for a taste of a taco. Celebrities like Julia Child and Jackson Browne are willing to wait in line in a world where celebrities just don't wait.
In a recent copy of American Way Magazine, Chef Bradley Ogden of One Market Street in San Francisco said, Anytime I get near Santa Barbara, I head for La Super-Rica...it's the best street-style Mexican food in California. USA Today ranked La Super-Rica as one of the 10 best Mexican restaurants in the U.S. Even on a trip through the back roads of the Big Island of Hawaii, a gas station attendant asked me where I came from. When I said Santa Barbara, his eyes lit up and he said two words, almost drooling: Super-Rica.
Very little has changed in the 24 years that Super-Rica has been serving up handmade tacos. The patio has evolved from a dirt floor with outdoor picnic tables to an enclosed and heated one. Recent hedge trimming has made the room brighter. But other than a few additions to the specials menu, Super-Rica is what it has always been and considered classic Santa Barbara.
What makes Super-Rica so super? My guess is that fresh, high-quality ingredients are prepared when ordered and consistently the same over the years. The rustic atmosphere with order window, paper plates and plastic utensils lowers one's expectations, but the first bite brings on the wows.
You can taste the careful blending of flavors and unique twists starting with the salsas. The salsa verde and salsa picante are sensational and delicious to dip, smother or accent any dish. Sometimes the tomatillo salsa verde is so fragrant with fresh tomatillos, cilantro, onion, chile serrano and a touch of garlic that it has floral overtones.
I usually order at least three different dishes. If I want a lighter meal, I order several different tacos such as the taco de bistec (beef, $2.10) and the taco de rajas (green chile, $3.35). With a heftier appetite, I'll order the pechuga suiza ($2.90), a chicken breast with melted cheese grilled between freshly made tortillas. The crispy edges of the melted cheese is inspiration to order a second.
The queso de cazuela ($2.30), melted cheese with tomato and its heartier relative, the chorizo especial ($3.80), melted cheese with chopped spicy Mexican sausage are such a great variation on fondue that it would get the Swiss yodeling. Thursday brings on specials like the tamal de verduras ($3.70), a vegetarian tamale made of chayote, corn, zucchini, potato, chile strips, cheese, tomato, cream and masa.
For drinks, the jamaica (hibiscus drink), horchata (rice drink) and tamarind are exotic, authentic alternatives to soft drinks. The other perfect marriage with Super-Rica's super tacos is an ice-cold Mexican beer.

Cachoeira da Fumaça, main attractions of the Chapada Diamantina and the biggest waterfall in Brazil.
#trekking #Brazil #Waterfall # tourism #national #park #travel
The Fumaça waterfall - Smoke Fallsis a Brazilian waterfall located between the municipalities of Lençóis and Palmeiras in the state of Bahia.
The waterfall is in the Chapada Diamantina, within the well-known Chapada Diamantina National Park and is 340 meters high, being the second largest in Brazil, smaller only than the El Dorado Waterfall in the Amazon.
The name refers to effect caused by the force of the wind, which prevents the water from reaching the base, forming a visual view as if it were smoke.
There are two ways to reach it: from above, walking 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) from the ecological base placed in the Vale do Capão, or from below, after a three-day trek starting from Lençoís.
This video shows the waterfall from the top, starting from the Capão Valley.
