The Penguins of Boulders Beach | Cape Town Day 2
The jet lag was still pretty intense! It is safe to say this was one of our favorite days in Cape Town. On our way to Boulders Beach we made a stop at St. James Beach which was incredible with the beautiful backdrop and very unique changing stations.
While at Boulders Beach we were shocked how close we were able to get to the Penguins and the fact that they actually exist in Cape Town.
Obviously I love penguins thanks to best franchise in the NHL....the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Doringbaai Lighthouse
Doringbaai lies just south of Strandfontein and Papendorp, where time slows virtually to a crawl, and the sea and the sky become your daily barometers.
Doringbaai is essentially a little fishing village that used to be known as Thornbay. It's well known as a bay where the Southern Right whales enter every year to calve between May to November. It's a charming little village ideal for getting away from it all, but not for those seeking constant entertainment, unless the sounds of crashing waves, water birds and the constant proximity of Doringbaai lighthouse are your kind of thing.
The lighthouse is one of the prominent features of staying here, and it's a particularly pretty lighthouse that has elicited a fair amount of interest lately, and was built in 1963.
Walking deserted beaches, hiking trails not only in the surrounding mountains but on the hills close to the beach that grant you a bird's eye view of the whales, a world-renowned succulent nursery, and access to the Namaqualand flowers during late winter and early spring are all reasons for your heading out here, up the deserted, wind-swept, but utterly gorgeous West Coast region.
Today the remnants of a thriving fish processing factory stand, lambasted by waves during the dire days of winter. It tells the tale of the days when there was an abundance of pilchards and sardines in the area. Today you're still allowed to feast on black and white mussels and lobsters, if you're prepared to collect them once you're issued with a licence, and if there is no red tide.

Early Sunday morning at Kalk Bay
This is a compendium of video clips taken at Kalk Bay harbour early one Sunday morning in April 2011. Kalk bay is a working fishing harbour frequented by many unique an interesting characters. It also has a couple of restaurants right on the harbour wall and numerous others down the main road. Main Road also has a wonderful collection of art galleries and antique shops. The railway line down to Simonstown has now been reopened and the trip between Muizenberg and Simonstown, all along the coast via Kalk Bay, is well worth the ride.
Adding Color to Lives Mural in Cape Town
Joel Bergner, a world renowned muralist, street artist and educator – creates a mural on the façade of the Strandfontein Library with the help of the local 9Miles Project as part of Park Inn by Radisson’s international #AddColorToLives campaign. The project aims to give a voice to those who generally go unheard and to voice the sentiments of disadvantaged youth, i.e. street kids and vulnerable youth who may be refugees or from underprivileged neighborhoods.
Harbour Island - Gordon's Bay - South Africa
Gordon's Bay is the smallest of three towns in the Helderberg region, so named after the Helderberg Mountain which is part of the Hottentots-Holland Mountains which dwarf the locality on two sides. Gordon's Bay was originally named Fish Hoek, many years before the town of the same name, located on the western side of False Bay, was founded. Evidence of this can be seen on the outside wall of the local Post Office.
Gordon's Bay consists of the old village, situated around the old harbour and Bikini Beach, the mountainside on the lower slopes of the Hottentots-Holland mountains overlooking False Bay, and the low-lying suburbs close to the main beach, making up the most recent expansion of the town.
