Portsoy is a few miles east of Cullen (other direction from Buckie). It's famous for being the site of filming for the remake of Whiskey Galore film based on the famous book. It's a small but charming movie. It's also famous for its Portsoy Ice Cream parlor and their bubble waffles. I can attest that they are delicious, especially, just a waffle with caramel sauce. It has a boat house for classes and commmunal space to build wooden boats. A sail loft for activities. And a salmon bothy museum with free entrance. Finally, it has an annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival held in June.
It's a lovely town with a great harbor with a small pub. Great old historic buildings still in use. I hope you enjoy this tour.

The original name may come from Port Saoithe, meaning saithe harbour.
Portsoy is located on the Moray Firth Coast of North East Scotland, 50 miles North West of Aberdeen & 65 miles East of Inverness. It had a population of 1752 persons at the time of the 2011 census.
Portsoy is known for local jewellery made from Portsoy marble (which is not marble, but rather serpentinite). The annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival was started in 1993 to celebrate the 300th year of the harbour.
Portsoy, notably the harbour, has featured in BBC period dramas “The Camerons” and “The Shutter Falls”, a Tennent’s Lager advert (parodying “Whisky Galore”) and, most recently, was the principal film location for Gillies MacKinnon’s 2016 film 'Whisky Galore' (a remake of the 1949 film of the same name); Portsoy represented the fictional island of Todday.

My great journey to Germany to visit Christopher in Senftenberg nearby Cottbus in March on the 17-19th,went there by Christophers's car,we also took two bicycles and put them into the car.Our route from Poland was through Żary,Olszyna,Cottbus to Senftenberg.On the way we stopped at the viewing platform nearby Cottbus to see countryside.We reached Senftenberg in the afternoon so we could biking that day through the town centre to admire this place where Christopher lives.We also visited Christopher's High School in Senftenberg late evening.
Next day we went around the local lake,along beautiful bike trails,the route was over 20 km long!Fine sunny weather and a lot of fun biking together!I returned to Poland another way through Spremberg,Forst and Guben!Total 23 interesting clips of my German journey,very long series,23 clips(1-4 part driving to Senftenberg,5-9 part biking in Senftenberg and showing the town,10-19 part bike trip over 20km,20-23 part driving back to Zielona Góra) hope you will enjoy my foreign travel!Amnas2011

Moja wspaniała podróż do Niemiec na zaproszenie Krzysztofa do miejscowości Senftenberg w pobliżu Cottbus od 17-go do 19-go marca.Pojechaliśmy z Zielonej Góry Krzyśka samochodem i zabraliśmy ze sobą dwa rowery.Trasa z Polski wiodła przez Żary,Olszynę (granica),Cottbus.W pobliżu Cottbus zatrzymaliśmy się przy platformie widokowej,gdzie podziwialiśmy miejscowy krajobraz,następnie późnym popołudniem dotarliśmy do Seftenbergu.Zdążyliśmy jeszcze w tym samym dniu objechać rowerami całe miasto,centrum jak również udało mi się zwiedzić Krzysia uczelnię w Senftenbergu!Następnego dnia przy pięknej słonecznej pogodzie objechaliśmy rowerami całe miejscowe jezioro,trasa liczyła ponad 20 km.Wszędzie fantastyczne ścieżki rowerowe,czego u nas w Polsce brak!Moja droga powrotna do Polski inną trasą przez Spremberg,Forst i Guben,zapraszam na 23 odcinki ( odcinek 1-4 podróż do Senftenbergu samochodem,odcinek 5-9 zwiedzanie rowerem miasta,odcinek 10-19 wycieczka rowerowa wokół miejscowego jeziora ponad 20 km,odcinek 20-23 powrót do Polski samochodem). 4K City Walks: Scottish Coastal Walk virtual walk - Cullen to Portknockie loop
I'm trying a different kind of virtual walk this time. I do a lot of nature walks but I haven't filmed any of them. This is a walk along a beach and up to a bluff overlooking a rocky Scottish coast and back along a walking trail. The trail is part of the Moray Coastal Trail and I start out in Cullen and walk to the edge of Portknockie with a glimpse of Bow Fiddle rock with nesting birds. It's a lovely evening with the sun starting its way towards a 10pm sunset (we are way up north).
Please let me know if you like this type of virtual hike or not. I suspect those looking for a treadmill virtual walk will like it and others more interested in travel and cities might not.

Bow Fiddle Rock:
Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch near Portknockie on the north-eastern coast of Scotland. It is so called because it resembles the tip of a fiddle bow.
It is composed of Quartzite, a metamorphic rock which was originally quartz sandstone. This rock is part of the Cullen Quartzite formation which is seen along the coast between Buckie and Cullen. The formation is some 2,400m thick and dates from the Neoproterozoic Era, 1,000 to 541 million years ago.
These rocks were folded when the ancient continents of Laurentia and Avalonia collided during the Caledonian orogeny. They later became exposed at the surface where sea and weather eroded the structure seen today.
The rock formation is both a tourist attraction and nesting place for sea birds including herring gulls, great black-backed gulls and lesser black-backed gulls.
Moray Coastal Trail:
The Moray Coastal Trail is a long distance path in north-east Scotland that along the coastline of the Moray council area. The route, which is 72 km long, runs between Forres and Cullen. It is designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), and connects with two further Great Trails: the Speyside Way at Spey Bay, and the Dava Way at Forres. The Moray Coast Trail can be combined with sections of these two routes to form a 153 km circular route known as the Moray Way, and also forms part of the North Sea Trail.[citation needed] The trail is primarily intended for walkers, but many sections are also suitable for cycling and horseriding. An alternative route for cycling, the Moray Coast Ride, shares some sections of path with the Moray Coast Trail, and forms part of the National Cycle Network's Route 1. About 23,000 people use the path every year, of whom about 1,000 complete the entire route.
SNH recommend that the trail be walked west to east (from Forres to Cullen), due to the direction of the prevailing winds. In this direction the following settlements are passed: Forres, Kinloss, Findhorn, Burghead, Hopeman, Lossiemouth, Spey Bay, Portgordon, Buckie, Findochty, Portknockie, Cullen. Places of note along the route are the Covesea Skerries Lighthouse and Bow Fiddle Rock.
