Brazilian Photographer Plants 2.7 Million Trees In A 20-Year Reforestation Project
This huge project has planted saplings of more than 290 species of trees, and seen the return of many species of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and insects.
By halting erosion of the soil, the replanting the ground cover at the PNHR Bulcão Farm is fostering a revival of the farm’s water resources - both in quantity and quality.
The eight natural springs on the farm have been come alive and, even in times of drought, they now flow at a rate of some 20 litres (5.3 gals) per minute.
Native species of trees planted in an area that was completely degraded have been chosen with the aim of creating a forest of high biomass and diversity.

Sebastião Salgado (born February 8, 1944 in Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil) is a Brazilian social documentary photographer and photojournalist.
After a somewhat itinerant childhood, Salgado initially trained as an economist, earning a masters degree in economics from the University of São Paulo in Brazil. He began work as an economist for the International Coffee Organization, often traveling to Africa on missions for the World Bank, when he first started seriously taking photographs. He chose to abandon a career as an economist and switched to photography in 1973, working initially on news assignments before veering more towards documentary-type work. Salgado initially worked with the Paris based agency Gamma, but in 1979 he joined the international cooperative of photographers Magnum Photos. He left Magnum in 1994 and formed his own agency, Amazonas Images, in Paris to represent his work. He is particularly noted for his social documentary photography of workers in less developed nations. Longtime gallery director Hal Gould considers Salgado to be the most important photographer of the early 21st century, and gave him his first show in the United States.
Salgado works on long term, self assigned projects many of which have been published as books: The Other Americas, Sahel, Workers, and Migrations. The latter two are mammoth collections with hundreds of images each from all around the world. His most famous pictures are of a gold mine in Brazil called Serra Pelada. He is presently working on a project called Genesis photographing the landscape, flora and fauna of places on earth that have not been taken over by man.

Um comunicado urgente, da Prefeitura de Colatina/ES (Defesa Civil), que circula através carro de som pela cidade, diz que o rio Doce irá atingir, nas próximas horas desta quinta-feira (8-2-2018), a denominada cota de inundação. A previsão foi possível graças a novos informes oriundos de municípios situados em Minas Gerais, como Aimorés. O aviso locucional alerta os moradores e comerciantes das áreas próximas ao rio para que tomem providências, no sentido de proteger seus familiares e seus bens. De acordo com a nota, houve ALTERAÇÕES DE ÚLTIMA HORA NO BOLETIM INFORMATIVO DA REPRESA DE AIMORÉS. O veículo com a informação passava pelas ruas da cidade às 11h desta manhã, quando o nível do rio estava em 5,55m na régua de medição abaixo da cabeça da Ponte Florentino Avidos, do lado do Centro da cidade.
