4. Alpine CoasterImst A mountain coaster or alpine coaster is a type of roller coaster with bobsled-like cars on tracks installed on a mountain. It is similar to alpine slides where a low-wheeled sled is used to navigate the track, but instead of running over smooth concave tracks like the alpine slide, alpine coasters run on rails with up-stop wheels like traditional roller coasters. Thus, an alpine coaster isn't necessarily safer due to the jerky movements the cart makes as it navigates its way on a fixed track. Alpine coasters are undoubtedly slower than an alpine slide since alpine coasters have speed regulated carts that prevent a rider from experiencing the track at full speed. Tracks are usually tubular rails, like a steel roller coaster, while some have monorail-type tracks. Unlike a traditional roller ... From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Severe Thunderstorm in Montreal - August 1st, 2011
This is a video of strong afternoon thunderstorms skimming the West Island of Montreal to our North and heading to the metropolitan area. All storms on this day were associated with a passing cold front moving in from the NW. Thunderstorms began to affect our region as of the mid afternoon hours.
For those interested in the meteorology behind the storms, CAPE levels were quite high through the day (between 2500-3000 Joules/kg) and speed shear values were relatively high from the 1 to 8 km layer depths. Environmental lapse rates were near 8 to 8.5 C C/km at low levels and roughly 6.5 C/km at mid levels, so there was some explosive convection with these storms as the cold frontal wave approached from the NW. Dewpoints reached 19-20 C, which is borderline high-very high. I also detected some rotation with these storms, likely because of the wind shear present.
Although the center of the storms today avoided the West Island, where I reside, we were treated with gorgeous views of the storms from all directions.
This was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal's West Island.
