Valkosaari Island Helsinki, Tour of the island and Yacht Club, September 2011, Luoto Island Helsinki Finland, Summer 2011 Finland, Valkosaari Island, Sailing club NJK (Nyländska Jaktklubben), Sailing club NJK (Nyländska Jaktklubben) had its rules established on 4 March in 1861 by emperor Alexander II. At the same time, the club acquired its first flag. The club moved to Valkosaari in 1885. The villa type club building was designed by architectural studio Estlander & Zettergren. It was opened on 31 August 1900. In the middle of the house there is a large, high hall surrounded by a verandah with views of Kauppatori and Katajanokka. The traditional style and quatility of the building has been maintained to the present day. Banners from foreign sailing clubs and a large exhibition of model boats help to illustrate the long tradition of sailing.
