Klawer is a settlement in West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Town 24 km west-south-west of Vanrhynsdorp and 283 km north of Cape Town. From the Afrikaans word for a type of wild clover which grows here after the rains.

A Small Town in South Africa: Vanrhynsdorp, Western Cape Province

The small town of Van Rhynsdorp lies about 300 km of Cape Town in South Africa's Western Cape Province. It is on the southern fringe of the arid area that stretches north to Namibia. I visited the town on a quiet weekday morning in June 2016.
I filmed this video with a Sony camera and a DJI Phantom 4 drone.

South African Steam: GF 2401 to Magaliesburg 20 Feb 1994

This trip was an RSSA day trip; the plan was to run the GF with a mixed train from Millsite to Magaliesburg, then up along the branch to Hekpoort and return, to Magaliesburg, then back to Millsite. To save time shunting at Magaliesburg, the feeder tank wasn't reversed, and was propelled by the Garratt towards Hekpoort. It all came unstuck on a dirt road crossing near Elberta, where the feeder tank was derailed by dirt over the crossing... It took several hours for the breakdown crew to arrive and re-rail the feeder tank (it was a Sunday!) so after a quick runpast at Elberta we headed back to Magaliesburg, and then Millsite in a fully-fledged Highveld thunderstorm! A good day nonetheless. The first SA fan trip I went on. Hadn't graduated to tripod use then, so the camera work is a bit lacking!

Cape Town: 'Atlantis Rail' depot 18/08/2016

During my holiday to Cape Town this august, I visited the main terminus station of the city which is also home to the railtour operating company 'Atlantis Rail'. The company operate various railtours on select dates in the year to various destinations such as Stellenbosh, Pretoria and George. They currently own 5 locos including class 24, 25NC, 16DA, 15F and most famously Class 26 'Red Devil'. This video is a brief tour of the site and the locos, hope you enjoy!

Watch as we pace two of SAR's finest - Pacifics 16DA 876 and the high-stepping 16E 857 as they cruise towards Bloemfontein from Modderpoort. A couple of Bloemfontein shed scenes follow, then a couple of shots of 25NC 3454 on a mixed train to De Brug.
