Eungella is an Australian township nestled on the edge of the Clarke Range at the end of the Pioneer Valley 80 km west of Mackay, and 858 km northwest of Brisbane. Eungella is noted for the national park which surrounds it. It is considered to be the longest continual stretch of sub-tropical rainforest in Australia. The original inhabitants are the Wirri people. The park is covered by dense rainforest and is known for its platypuses. Also, it has a dam that supplies water for Collinsville, Mackay and Moranbah.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a heritage-listed zoological garden at 28 Tomewin Street, Currumbin, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1947 onwards. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 18 September 2009. The sanctuary is world-renowned for its feeding of huge flocks of free-flying wild rainbow lorikeets, which come to the sanctuary to feast off the special mixture which the lorikeets eat. The multitude of events, shows and attractions include dingo encounters, free flight bird shows and feeding of the park's massive saltwater crocodile. Holiday Travel Video Guide for Mackay, Queensland Australia

We stopped in to check out the some of the great natural experiences that can be enjoyed in Mackay and its surrounds. We started with a trip to Cape Hillsborough where we spotted a couple of Kangaroos on the beach. Pretty amazing stuff!

We then headed into the Eungella national park to check out some of their rainforest walks. After we explored these magnificent forests we decided to head down to a locals hot spot Finch Hatton Gorge for a nice refreshing swim !

Mackay: Filled with wildlife and history

The Mackay region is an inviting blend of secluded beaches, elusive wildlife and rural communities. Cape Hillsborough National Park is a volcanic peninsula located approximately 40 km north-west of Mackay. The peninsular is largely covered by rainforest and rises to an elevation of 267 m. The cape was named by Lieutenant James Cook during his first voyage to the Pacific in 1770.
