12 Things NOT To Do in Iraq
# 12 Things NOT To Do in Iraq
By:
Iraq is a lovely place.
So know these 12 Things NOT to Do, before you go!
1. Try Not to stand out
Rather than driving fast, surrounded by bodyguards try to blend in as much as possible. Women should dress in local fashion and men should grow out their facial hair.
2. Don't Step On Bread!
Bread is a highly treasured food in Iraq. If you happen across a fallen hunk in the street don't step on it or touch it with your feet!
3. Don't Visit the Borders.
Don't travel near the Syrian, Turkish, or Iranian borders. You may encounter large refugee flows.
4. Don't Bring Bad Luck.
When Iraqis buy a new appliance they will crack an egg over it to wash away any bad luck! Iraqis are very superstitious.
5. Don't Get Jumpy!
You often may see a group of Iraqis shouting and firing rifles. But it's just a traditional way of celebrating a wedding or event. Each tribe has a different song.
6. Don't Bring Bad Luck!
If an Iraqi buys a new car, he may sacrifice a rooster for good luck. If it's a new house he may sacrifice a lamb!
7. Don't Leave the Safe Zones.
Generally speaking, southern Iraq is safer than the Sunni Triangle, and a traveler must be particularly careful in Baghdad, where there are some highly dangerous neighborhoods.
8. DON'T BRING BAD LUCK!
Don't be surprised to find an old shoe hanging in a new house! Iraqis are VERY superstitious!
9. Don't Forget Shots!
The CDC recommends travelers get Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines as you can get these diseases through contaminated food or water in Iraq.
10. Don't Compliment Children!
Don't tell an Iraqi how well-behaved or handsome their child is. They believe this could jinx them with The Evil Eye.
11. Don't Eat Around!
In many places you may find yourself eating from a communal dish. In this case only take the portion that's directly in front of you.
12. Don't Eat with Your Left Hand!
According to the Prophet Muhammad, you should only use your right hand. The left hand is reserved for other things...
Now you can enjoy your stay in this stunningly beautiful and diverse country!

The Most Perfect Country?
HELLO SRI LANKA!! I am ecstatic to be spending the next 5 days road tripping around this most perfect country in the world!
I first fell in love with Sri Lanka in 2014, but I didn’t own a video camera back then... so I’m thrilled to be here again and show you the wonderful sites and culture of this small island-nation in the Indian Ocean.
In all honesty, Sri Lanka might just be the “most perfect” country in the world, or at least, out of the 153 countries that I have visited. The food is amazing, the nature is breathtaking, the culture is unique, the people are friendly, the lifestyle is affordable — Sri Lanka is the definition of a travelers' paradise.
Have you ever been to Sri Lanka? Please recommend some places to visit or people to meet over the coming 5 days!

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - Sri Lankan food is known for crabs, and you’ll find some of the best mud crabs you’ll ever try in Sri Lanka. One of the top places to eat Sri Lankan crab curry is The Station, a seafood restaurant and bar along the ocean in Colombo. During out best of Sri Lankan food tour ( this was the first meal we had, and it was outstanding.
I met up with Uchith ( Nick ( and Lakki ( who showed me the restaurant and took me to the kitchen to watch as they made their entire family recipe for Sri Lankan crab curry, using huge 1.5 kg. Sri Lankan mud crabs. It was fascinating and a learning experiences to watch all the different steps and the complicated ingredients used in their recipe.
As I kept watching the Sri Lankan crab curry being made, I could hardly contain my excitement or mouth juices!
Our entire group came, and they started bringing out more dishes - not just the Sri Lankan crab curry, but river prawns fried in black pepper, and spiny lobster hollowed out and re-added to its shell. It was stunningly good. Along with Sri Lankan food, The Station also has a few of their own unique, Sri Lankan fusion seafood dishes, including favorites like hot butter squid.
Sri Lankan crab curry - we had one pan of their original Sri Lankan family recipe crab curry, and one pan of their extra spicy crab curry. Both were outstanding, but I loved the original for the spice blend and balance and how all the juices soaked up into the crab, it was outstanding.
The Sri Lankan food and crab curry was outstanding, the people, our entire group, and the owners of The Station are incredible people as well. Thank you to The Station, Nick, Uchitch and Lakki.

Athens - HD Vacation Travel Guide & Indoor Exercise Video
Welcome to this guided fitness workout filmed in Athens, an ancient city often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization. You’ll warm up around the imposing OAKA Stadium, which hosted the 2014 Olympics before descending from the tree clad mountains that embrace Athens into the city centre. Continue along the shores of the Aegean Sea before hitting the bustling streets and catching your first glimpse of the Acropolis, crowned by the Parthenon and visible from almost everywhere within the city. The intervals relent as dusk starts to fall and you’ll finish at the illuminated fountain at Syntagma Square, the heart of the city and its oldest and most important square which is also where distances to other Greek cities are measured from.
The workout is guided throughout and you’ll receive regular on-screen prompts showing your targeted level of effort, which can be achieved through pace or incline (or resistance if using other indoor fitness equipment).
The 5 effort levels used are as follows:
1: Warm Up/Down
2: Easy
3: Comfortable

Fishing around the South Pole
When the commercial whaling moratorium was introduced by the IWC in 1982, Japan lodged an official objection, but withdrew this objection in 1987 after the United States threatened it with sanctions. Therefore, in 1987, Japan stopped commercial whaling activities in Antarctic waters, but in the same year began a controversial scientific whaling program Japan's scientific whaling program has remained controversial, with conservation groups and anti-whaling countries such as the US and Australia maintaining that the number of animals killed is much greater than demanded by scientific purposes and that the real reason for the scientific kills is to provide whale meat for Japanese restaurants and supermarkets. The Japanese government points out that IWC regulations require that whale meat be utilised upon the completion of research. The Japanese government insists that it be allowed to continue research into whale populations and breeding habits in order to refute claims that commercial whaling threatens the sustainability of the populations. In 1994, Australia attempted to stop some of the Japanese whaling program by enforcing a 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) around the Australian Antarctic Territory. However, Antarctic territories are not generally recognized internationally. In 2005, the JARPA scientific research program was replaced by the JARPA-II program, which increases the quota of minke whales to 900, and more controversially, adds fin whales to the program, with a quota of 10 animals in 2005. This move has sparked a great deal of controversy among anti-whaling nations, in particular because fin whales are listed as endangered under the Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species. Starting in 2007, Japan plans to harvest up to 50 humpback whales and 50 fin whales annually. Antarctica is not under the political sovereignty of any nation, although seven countries (Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom) maintain territorial claims. Most other countries do not recognize these claims, and the claims of Argentina, Chile and the United Kingdom all overlap. Also, the United States and Russia reserve the right to territorial claims. Human activity on the continent is regulated by the Antarctic Treaty, which was signed in 1959 by 12 countries and prohibits any military activity, supports scientific research, and protects the continent's ecozone. Ongoing experiments are conducted by more than 4000 scientists of many different nationalities and with many different research interests.
SCARED FOR MY LIFE! Sailing at 22 knots boat speed down HUGE waves (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 105
Yep, La Vagabonde reached 22.7 knots boat speed. We couldn’t believe it. With a max of 28 knots wind behind us from about 120 degrees, we surfed down one wave and then caught the next one in front of that. Before we knew it we were all looking at a 22.7 on the nav gear. I had a close eye on the bows making sure they weren't going to bury, they looked like they might but Riley promised me that it was normal and fine!! Matthieu says we could have got 25 knots so looks like Riley will be aiming for that next time… I never thought I’d go this fast on a sail boat. Still in recovery from this wild experience. Very happy to still be here to tell you this tale, to be alive and writing this very description is a miracle. I love you guys, Elayna.

Lisbon - HD Vacation Travel Guide & Indoor Exercise Video
This video was filmed in Portugal’s capital, a city spread over seven hillsides overlooking the imposing River Tagus. Boasting cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins, and white-domed cathedrals, Lisbon is the oldest city in Western Europe and boasts the iconic Vasco da Gama bridge, which measures over 17 kilometers from end to end.
On your virtual tour, you’ll get to see the 5-star Myriad, an uber-cool hotel neighboring the Vasco da Gama Tower, Lisbon’s tallest skyscraper and which was built to resemble a wind swollen sail in honor of old mariners.
You’ll also drop in on other famous landmarks including the Praça do Comércio, Jerónimos Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Padrão dos Descobrimentos (or the Monument to the Discoveries) before finishing with a windy but beautiful sunset with views of Belém Tower.
