Inside the Peloponnese - Greece HD Travel Channel
Our journey leads us into the inside of the Peloponnese. Along the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, we head west to Trapeza. From here we take a turn to the south along the monastery Megaspiläon that stucks like a bird nest on a rock wall. In the small town of Rogo we visit the memorial for the victims of the Nazi terror regime. Here, the entire male population of the village was massacred here in the World War II.
After a drive through valleys and high mountain passes and a short visit to the Cave of the Lakes (Spileo ton Limnon) at Kastria, we reach the historic city of Mantinea. The city was often in conflict with Sparta, was destroyed and rebuilt with the help of Thebes and later destroyed again by Slavs . Here is one of the most unusual churches in Greece. During the construction of the church one tried to combine all architectural styles.
Before we leave the highland, we enjoy a marvellous view to the gulf of Argos.

Gythio, Mani Peloponnese - top attractions & sites | Greece Tour Guide
This picturesque little town is located on the south of the Peloponnese. It is also well known as the ancient port of Sparta, being so close to both Ancient Sparta and the medieval town of Mystras [some 40 kilometres (25 miles) south]. Further south it is close to the Diros Caves, the castle of Monemvasia on the southeast and the unique middle age villages of Mani. Mani is a legend by itself, a peninsula that is being characterized by a very dramatic and unique landscape composed by huge rocks, big cliffs, amazing sea views from its windy roads and stone tower houses that the locals used to build to either be protected by the pirate invasions, or from each other due to the so many family vendettas.
Gytheio, used to be an important port in Laconia, Peloponnese, until it was destroyed in 4th century AD, possibly by an earthquake. Today it is the largest and most important town in Mani.
Gytheio was built on a hill in one of the most fertile areas in Mani. Further northeast is the delta of the Evrotas River. Offshore are several small islands; the most important of these islands is Cranae, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Pine trees are situated in the west and rocky mountains in the north.
It is a port town with lots of good fish restaurants, some great ouzeries and is within driving distance of the Mani, Mystras, and much of the south-eastern coast of the Peloponessos. It also has some amazing old buildings built in the last two centuries. Gythio (or Gythion) is a pleasure to wander through with the neo-classical houses, shops and spectacular old apartment buildings, hugging the side of Mount Koumaros all the way down to the sea. It makes you feel like you are in the type of Greek port that existed before the wars. Unique and authentic!

Peloponnese, Greece: Rugged Mani Peninsula
More info about travel to the Peloponnese: While most visitors to Greece's Peloponnese enjoy the same tourist stops, a three-hour drive takes you off the beaten path to the timeless and rustic south coast. Its southernmost point, the Mani Peninsula, still harbors remote corners where centuries-old art is tucked away, and where the curious traveler can be alone with a bit of bygone culture.
