Hinuera is a settlement in the Waikato Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located along State Highway 29, approximately halfway between the cities of Hamilton and Tauranga. It also contains the Hinuera cliffs along State Highway 29. Mangawhara School opened in 1908, though the Education Board had a lease of a railway cottage from 1893. Electric street lights came in 1923.Hinuera had a butter factory from 1922 to 1987.James Cotter, MLC was from Hinuera.

It is considered very important and tapu by the local Māori iwi, featuring extensively in local mythology. It is also of significant historical value. The summit is 232 metres above sea level. In recent years there have been several fires on the mountain, in turn triggering a number of replanting efforts. Since Mount Maunganui has been open to the general public it has become a popular location for many activities including scenic walks, jogging and even hang gliding.
