Visiting Passau, Germany

My first stop in Europe well on an assignment for Viking River Cruises was the town of Passau, Germany which is in the heart of Bavaria. The town is a travel photographer's dream. It is just a fantastic place to shoot images. Passau has plenty of fantastic views to keep you occupied. It also has beautiful architecture, interesting streets, good food, and markets. Of course, it's also Christmas season in Europe, so I had the chance to visit the Bavarian Christmas market, and sample some of the local grub. All in all, Passau, Germany was absolutely brilliant. It's one of those places that just defines this part of Europe. In many ways, it's the typical Bavarian town, and in other ways it's just so unique. It's one of those European towns that I'd love to spend a week or two just exploring the streets and creating images. But, alas, my time in Passau had to be fairly short as I only had a day and a half before my ship set sail for my next destination.

Schönheiten von Landshut Bayern Bavaria Germany
Landshut ist eine kreisfreie Stadt, die sowohl zu Ost- als auch zu Südbayern zählt. Sie ist Sitz der Regierung von Niederbayern. Des Weiteren ist sie Verwaltungssitz des Landkreises Landshut. Mit 67.625 Einwohnern ist Landshut vor Passau und Straubing die größte Stadt des Regierungsbezirks sowie nach Regensburg die zweitgrößte Stadt Ostbayerns.
Am höchsten Punkt des Steilhanges über der Isar, auf einer Höhe von über 500 m ü. NN, thront die Burg Trausnitz, deren Vorläufer bereits seit dem Jahr 1150 erwähnt sind und als „Hut und Schutz des Landes“ der zukünftigen Stadt an der Isar ihren Namen geben sollte. Die ältesten Teile der heute noch stehenden Wehranlage stammen noch aus der Zeit der Stadtgründung von 1204.
