SOO line 29 Years Ago near Savanna Illinois 1989 Part Two (of two)
Selected scenes from a day videotaping in Savanna, Illinois; late winter 1989.
Picking up where Part One left off;
- on the SOO, the Eastbound w/6052 is now waiting at Plum siding in Savanna for a Westbound meet. This location is directly between the SOO and BN and, at the time, was being readied for development as new housing. While there, a few WB's pass by on the BN to my right.
- along with the meet on the SOO, we see what is left of the vast MILW yard and the remainder of the old Rt84 bridge.
- chasing the EB now out onto the Northern Illinois prairie, I catch it just South of Mt Carroll where we hear some of the track warrants with a meet at Kittredge. Now a siding, it was the spot where the MILW line from Beloit and Freeport met this main.
- with some sunshine now, our train is through Lanark.
- after trouble finding a spot to see the meet only a few miles away, I settle on seeing the WB head out. A good look at Google maps all these years later shows I should've stayed in Lanark to see this next train.
After a few inquiries, I've put much of this collection from VHS 1988-1995 on DVD. Living near Nelson, IL in the 80's and 90's, and before children and mortgages came along, I had ample time to document the CNW, BN, Santa Fe and short lines and regionals. Many one-of-a-kind visits with scenes devoted to yards, and structures and surrounding scenery and MOW workers etc. Below is a list of exclusive DVDs and other projects;
