Places to see in ( Sarlat - France )
Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town in southwest France's Dordogne department. Its central Sainte-Marie Church, redesigned by architect Jean Nouvel, hosts an indoor food market, and a glass elevator in the bell tower offers city views. Sarlat Market sells local delicacies like foie gras and cheese. To the south, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat, stands the bullet-shaped Lanterne des Morts tower.
Sarlat - Now we're talking! The most famous town in the region and one of the most renowned and visited in France. It is also one of the most attractive. Often called just Sarlat, the town is actually twinned with its less famous neighbour and is more correctly called Sarlat le Caneda.
Sarlat is in the region called the Perigord Noir in the Sout West of France. Destined to be besieged by tourists at almost all times of the year Sarlat is a beautiful, well restored town a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. The old town, dating from both medieval and renaissance times is a pleasure to visit, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better.
The cathedral was originally the church of Sarlat Abbey. Over the centuries it has been added to and transformed and is now a mix of Roman, Gothic and other styles. The cour du cloitre and the nearby cour des fontaines and the cour des chanoines were all originally part of the abbey. The jardin des Enfeus just above the cathedral is the ancient abbey cemetary and there are several sarcophagus and 'enfeus'(enfeus are tombs that are built into the church wall).
Opposite the cathedral on the Place du Peyrou is the splendid 'Hôtel de La Boétie', birthplace of the philosopher and humanist Etienne de La Boétie. His house has a large arched entrance and Renaissance style mullioned windows.
Crossing the Rue de la Republique to the west side of town take a look at the Hotel St Clar with its wonderful turret tower and see the Tour du Bourreau and the last remaining part of the ramparts. Wander northwards past the convent of Ste Claire and the Chapel of the Penitents Blancs with its huge Baroque doorway.
Crossing back over the Rue de la Republique walk down the Rue des Consuls. This road is one of the highlights of Sarlat and contains a number of very impressive mansions. There is the 16th century Hotel de Mirandol with its imposing doorway, the 14th century Hotel Plamon with its three arched windows. The floor above with its mullion windows was added a century later. The Hotel de Vassal was built in the 15th century and has a double turret and the Hotel Tapinois de Betou has a monumental staircase. Wandering along the street taking in all the different details of windows and doors and roofs is a pleasure.

SAINT-CIRQ LAPOPIE - Chemin de Halage de BOUZIÈS - Grotte du PECH MERLE
SAINT-CIRQ LAPOPIE is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France. It is a member of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The most beautiful villages of France) association .
Its position, originally selected for defense, perched on a steep cliff 100 m above the river has helped make the town one of the most popular tourist destinations in the department, and the entire town is almost a museum.
After it was discovered by the Post-Impressionist Henri Martin, it became popular with other artists and the home of the writer André Breton.
PECH MERLE is a cave which opens onto a hillside at Cabrerets in the Lot département of the Occitania region in France, about 35 minutes by road east of Cahors. It is one of the few prehistoric cave painting sites in France that remain open to the general public.
Extending for over a kilometre and a half from the entrance are caverns, the walls of which are painted with dramatic murals dating from the Gravettian culture (some 25,000 years BC).
Some of the paintings and engravings, however, may date from the later Magdalenian era (16,000 years BC).
This area once had a great river flowing through it, cutting underground channels which were later used by humans for shelter and eventually for mural painting.
The cave art located in the deeper areas of the cave was discovered in 1922 by Andre David and Henri Dutetre, two teen-aged boys who had been exploring the cave for two years.
Like other children of the area, these two had been encouraged and assisted in their exploration by Father Amedee Lemozi, the curate of Cabrerets, an amateur archaeologist who had discovered other cave paintings in the region.
The walls of seven of the chambers at Pech Merle have fresh, lifelike images of woolly mammoth, spotted horses,] single colour horses, bovids, reindeer, handprints, and some humans.
Footprints of children, preserved in what was once clay, have been found more than half a mile underground.

Places to see in ( Paris - France ) Musee National de la Marine
The Musée national de la Marine is a maritime museum located in the Palais de Chaillot, Trocadéro, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. It has annexes at Brest, Port-Louis, Rochefort, Toulon and Saint-Tropez. The permanent collection originates in a collection that dates back to Louis XV of France. In 1748, Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau offered a collection of models of ships and naval installations to Louis XV of France, with the request that the items be displayed at the Louvre and made available to students of the Naval engineers school, which Duhamel headed. The collection was put on display in 1752, in a room of the first floor, next to the Academy of Sciences; the room was called Salle de Marine (Navy room), and was used for teaching.
With the French Revolution, the Salle de Marine closed in 1793. The collection was added to models owned by the King personally, to others owned by the Ministry of Navy, and yet others owned by émigrés or executees (notably Philippe Égalité). A short-lived museum was opened between 1801 and 1803 at the Ministry of Navy, then located at Place de la Concorde.
In 1810, Napoléon ordered a gallery of 19 models, known as the Trianon model collection, to be put on display in his offices at Grand Trianon, as to document the types of warships in usage in the French Navy at the time. Jacques-Noël Sané was put in charge of the task. Napoléon also had a model of the frigate Muiron in his bedroom at Château de Malmaison.
In 1827, after the Bourbon Restoration, Charles X ordered a Naval museum to be opened at the Louvre. The task was given to Pierre Zédé. Rooms were also opened or restored in Cherbourg, Brest, Lorient, Rochefort and Toulon. In 1852, Antoine Léon Morel-Fatio became curator of the Museum. He emphasised the importance of painting, adding to the works of Joseph Vernet. He also made a catalogue of the items, and reorganised the ethnographic items of the collection. In 1871, admiral François-Edmond Pâris became curator, and had over 400 models of small crafts indigenous to different locations of the French Empire constructed.
From 1905, ethnographic items were transferred to other museums, and in 1920, the administration of the Museum was transferred to the French Navy. In 1937, part of the Palais de Chaillot was devoted to harbouring the museum, which opened on 15 August 1943. From 1971, the museum became an autonomous body under the Ministry of Defence. In 1975, it was instrumental in the restoration of Port-Louis fortress. In 1992, it purchased Éric Tabarly's Pen Duick V, now serving in the French Navy as a sailing school ship.

About Pech Merle...
Devotion never tasted so good.
Whether you're being Flirtatious, are Smitten or have become completely Devoted, we are excited you have chosen to indulge yourself with the romance that is captured in Pech Merle Wines.
The definition of romance is the feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. The romance began when we were exploring the Lot River Valley in France and happened upon the prehistoric caves of Pech Merle.
We were captivated by a feeling of comfort in a place where families once gathered for shelter, harvested the land to feed their families, and through the unique documentation of their lives, they also created beautiful cave art. It brought back memories of both our childhoods. We stood there silently, both having the same reflection.
Both of us grew up on and around farms and have a love for the land and nurturing things to grow. On that day, we were filled with what could be called none other than romance and a vision for what we now call: Pech Merle Wine.
We carefully selected John Pepe as our wine maker because of his ability to locate the best fruit from the finest appellations in which each varietal is grown. John too has a passion for the earth, is meticulous about the process and is sensitive to the elements of each changing season. He is a master at the craft and his devotion to producing exceptional luxury class wines, is clearly noted from the awards we've already been granted.
At Pech Merle we have an alluring romance with each varietal of our wine. We will continually be devoted to producing limited quantity, delicious artisanal wines celebrating the passion from the vine to the emotion in the bottle. We hope that you enjoy the pleasures we've bottled to share with you.
It has always been our passion to share in a glass of wine while enjoying the company of family and good friends and hope that you will do the same with a glass of your favorite Pech Merle Wine.
Cheers!
