Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda or Lago Bènaco, Latin: Benacus; Lombard: Lach de Garda; Venetian: Łago de Garda) is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north). The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name.
The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Paleolithic glacier. Although traces of the glacier's actions are evident today, in more recent years it has been hypothesised that the glacier occupied a previously existing depression, created by stream erosion 5 to 6 million years ago.
The lake has numerous small islands and five main ones, the largest being Isola del Garda where in 1220 St. Francis of Assisi founded a monastery, in its place now stands a nineteenth-century building in the Venetian Gothic style. Nearby to the south is Isola San Biagio, also known as the Isola dei Conigli (Island of the Rabbits). Both are offshore of San Felice del Benaco, on the lake's western side. The three other main islands are Isola dell'Olivo, Isola di Sogno, and Isola di Trimelone, all farther north near the eastern side.
Garda Lake Italy: Lazise
Lazise Garda Lake Italy, the delightful town is located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, a small jewel on the water characterized by the presence of buildings of great architectural and historical value, much appreciated by tourists for both its beauty and its proximity with the thermal baths of Colà and Gardaland, which is the largest amusement park in Italy.
Lazise is by far the most visited town on the Gardesana Riviera, with over 2 million people who each year choose it as a base for their holidays around the major lake in Italy.

A week at Camping Eden, Lake Garda with Al Fresco Holidays | AD Press Trip
We were invited to spend a week with Al Fresco Holidays in Italy and stayed with them at Camping Eden, Lake Garda.
So one week before the end of the school holidays off I flew with the girls and Tin Box Grandma and Grandpa in tow. Sadly Mr Tin Box had already gone back to work so he wasn’t able to join us but it did give us the opportunity to enjoy our first multi-generational holiday abroad.
In seven days we had a brilliant time at Camping Eden, which is a super family campsite on Lake Garda, we took a boat trip to Garda on the opposite side of the lake and a day trip to Venice. Here we were invited to take a treasure hunt around some of the lesser explored parts of the city with Macaco Tour (hosted).

Hi there, I’m Claire – a mid-30s mummy to a busy primary schooler and smiley toddler, and wife to a Royal Navy Officer.
Tin Box Traveller is a UK family travel blog that I use to share our adventures and inspire others to explore new places. I’ve been a wanderer from the day dot. Some of my earliest memories are from living in Hong Kong while my dad was working there until I started school. Back in the UK my weekends and holidays as a pre-teen and teen were spent caravanning all over the UK. So it’s no surprise that exploring the great outdoors and new places are two of my biggest passions. Meet the rest of the team:

Places to see in ( Malcesine - Italy ) Cassone
Cassone ( Cason in Venetian ) is a place on the bank of the north - east of Lake Garda , a hamlet of the town of Malcesine , in the province of Verona. The country is crossed by the river Aril , which, with its 175 meters in length, is the shortest river in Italy and one of the shortest in the world (the primacy belongs to the river Reprua which flows into Abkhazia ).
Cassone is located approx. 4 km to the south of the center of Malcesine. The town was immortalized in 1913 by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt ( 1862 - 1918 ) in the painting Church in Cassone sul Garda ( Kirche in Cassone am Gardasee ) during a visit.
The bell tower houses 5 bells in Mi3 played according to the Campane alla Verona technique. The marina with the windmill is remarkable. The shortest river in the World is 175 m long and it is situated in Cassone, Malcesine.

San Felice Borgo in Chianti Tuscany Italy
This old village is now used as a hotel and they also produce wine. olive oil and other agricoltural products. The stone houses seen in this video are used by the hotel clients. Very nice and quiet place to stay and have a vacation. It is near to Siena. Not far from Florence, Pisa and other Tuscan localities.

Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda [ˈlaːɡo di ˈɡarda] or Lago Bènaco, Latin: Benacus; Lombard: Lach de Garda; Venetian: Łago de Garda) is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location and is located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan. It is the evolution of the Germanic word warda, meaning place of guard or place of observation.
Geography
The main tributary is the Sarca River, others include the Ponale River (fed by Lago di Ledro), the Varone/Magnone River (via the Cascate del Varone) and various streams from both mountain sides, while the only outlet is the Mincio River (79 metres (259 ft), at Bardolino). The subdivision is created by the presence of a fault submerged between Sirmione and Punta San Vigilio which is almost a natural barrier that hampers the homogenization between the water of the two zones.
Climate
The particularly mild climate favours the growth of some Mediterranean plants, including the olive tree. Citrus (lemon) trees can also be found, which are extremely rare at this latitude (46° North).[1] This greatly favoured the development of tourism since the end of the second world war. In ancient times, poets like Catullus wrote about Lacus Benacus with its mild climate vivified by the winds. The lake is oriented from north to south towards the Po Valley, so many winds typical of the lake are the result of a difference between lower and higher altitude temperatures. Due to this, winds are generated that descend from the mountains to the plains in the morning and go back to the mountains in the afternoon. The bottleneck formed by the lake basin affects the timing of the winds, many of which happen on a regular daily basis. The winds are all named, most in regional Italian dialect so a single wind may have different names.
Biology
Salmo carpio, also known as the carpione (carpione del Garda[2][3] or Lake Garda carpione[4]) is a rare salmonid fish endemic to Lake Garda. It has been introduced to a number of other lakes in Italy and elsewhere but unsuccessfully in all cases.[2] The population in Lake Garda has been strongly declining, and is considered critically endangered (IUCN 3.1).[3][4] The main threats are due to overfishing, pollution and possibly competition from introduced species such as Coregonus and other Salmonidae.[5]
Adult lake trout outside the mating season are silvery with very few black spots on the body and almost none on the head. During the mating season males develop some a dark mottled body coloration. Garda lake trout reach a length of up to 50 centimeters. They live primarily in depths of 100 to 200 metres (330 to 660 feet).

San Felice Circeo old town, with Dji Phantom and Go Pro Hd , by Isola di Eea BB
The old town of San Felice Circeo, have very old origins. Roman Triumvir Lepidus was exiled her after his fall in 36BC by his former colleague, and future Emperor, Octavian (Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome, that started the Imperial Era). Ruins of his house are still visible. The history of this town is tightly linked with Rome. After its fall in 476 AC, pirates and moorish invasions from the sea until the construction, in 16th century and thanks to Pope Pio VI, of four defense towers dislocated along the Promontory coastline. As a result, all enemy ships were not able to hide in the bays, and attacks to town became suddenly more difficult to accomplish. There are a lot of stories of pirates, kidnapped women, adventures, death and victories. And don't forget that Ulysses too, have been attracted by the charm of this Promontory.
