Venaria Reale is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 8 kilometres northwest of Turin. Venaria Reale borders the municipalities of Robassomero, Caselle Torinese, Druento, Borgaro Torinese, Turin, Pianezza, and Collegno. A 19th century distinguished citizen of Venaria Reale was Michele Lessona, an illustrious scientist and decorated Senatore del Regno.

The Palace of Venaria is a former royal residence and gardens located in Venaria Reale, near Turin in the Metropolitan City of Turin of the Piedmont region in northern Italy. It is one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997. It received 1,012,033 visitors in 2016. The Palace was designed and built from 1675 by Amedeo di Castellamonte, commissioned by duke Charles Emmanuel II, who needed a base for his hunting expeditions in the heathy hill country north of Turin. The name itself derives from Latin, Venatio Regia meaning Royal Hunt.

The abbey, which for much of its history came under Benedictine rule, is now entrusted to the Rosminians. A special regional law acknowledges it as the Symbolic monument of the Piedmont region. This monumental abbey served as one of the inspirations for the book The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

Lake Orta is a lake in northern Italy, west of Lake Maggiore. It has been so named since the 16th century, but was previously called the Lago di San Giulio, after Saint Julius , the patron saint of the region. Its southern end is about 35 kilometres by rail, to the northwest of Novara on the main Turin-Milan line, while its north end is about 6 kilometres by rail south of the Gravellona-Toce railway station, halfway between Ornavasso and Omegna. Its scenery is characteristically Italian, while the San Giulio island has some very picturesque buildings, and takes its name from the local saint, who lived in the 4th century. Royal Palace of Venaria, Italy | Travel Guide

The Royal Palace of Venaria (Reggia Di Venaria Reale) is one of the former residences of Royal House of Savoy. Venaria lies approximately 10 kms from the center of Turin. It took me around an hour from Torino Porta Nuova Railway Station to reach the Palace of Venaria by boarding bus 11 outside the station. One of the best views of the palace is a stroll in the gardens with amazing views of snow capped Alps. Though spectacular in winter I couldn't help thinking how beautiful this place would look in the full bloom of spring !
