Vienna in October (Oktober)
Vienna is a diverse and colourful place full of life; there are different things to see, places to go and stuff to do in different times of the year. In this set of articles, I will highlight the best seasonal events of each month. In October, the last summerly days of the year can be expected. Alternatively, it can also get rainy, cold and miserable. If they haven′t already started in September, the operas, theatres, museums and galleries open the new season with new shows, performances and exhibitions. The surroundings of Vienna are engaged in all kinds of wine harvest celebrations and create ideal conditions for some hill walking in the Wienerwald, cycling in the Wachau or walks through the vineyards.
Weather in Vienna in October
October is proper autumn in Vienna, but in the city, this is not as noticeable as it would be in the surroundings. Expect some fog and rainy days, but also periods of mild weather and sunshine. The wine harvest is in full action at this time and all the wine farmers hope for sunny weather.
The average daily temperature for the maximum values is still a bearable 14 degrees Celsius, but the minimum temperature average drops to 7 degrees. There are four hours of sunshine on an average October day in Vienna and throughout the month, one can expect 6 days with rain. Bring warm clothing that you can wear in layers - depending on whether you catch a sunny or rainy phase, the temperatures can vary significantly in Vienna during October.
Things to See & Do in Vienna: October
October is the last month before the misery of winter, in which you can hope for some summerly days in Vienna: Go to the hills north of the city centre for some views from the Kahlenberg over the city or enjoy the parks of Schloss Schönbrunn without the ten thousands of tourists that occupied the palace during the previous months. If it is rainy, I recommend the Wien modern festival, dedicated to contemporary music. In late October, the Viennale opens its gates, a film festival of the rather arty/independent kind. Do not miss out on a Heuriger (traditional wine tavern) and try some Sturm, lightly fermented grape juice with the yeast still in it.
Things to Do & See in Vienna′s Surroundings: October
Just like in September, the surroundings of Vienna are dominated by the impression of ripe grapes in October. Note my advice for the previous month: If you got a chance, use a sunny day to catch a train from Vienna to Baden and hike through the vineyards to Gumpoldskirchen, which is famous for its many Heurige taverns. Alternatively, the hills just north of Vienna are full with vineyards and hiking there is nice - which also applies to Klosterneuburg just once over the hill.

Praha hlavní nádraží (Praha hl.n) is the largest railway station in Prague, the Capital City of the Czech Republic. It was originally opened in 1871 and named Franz Josef Station after Franz Joseph I of Austria. During the First Republic and from 1945 to 1953 the station was called Wilson station after former President of the United States Woodrow Wilson. His statue stood in the park in front of the station before torn down by German authorities when the U.S. entered the war in 1941.
The new statue of Woodrow Wilson is now (2012) in place. The Art Nouveau station building and station hall were built between 1901 and 1909, designed by the Czech architect Josef Fanta, on the site of old dismantled Neo-Renaissance station. The station was extended by a new terminal building, built between 1972 and 1979, including an underground station and a main road on the roof of the terminal. The new terminal building claimed a large part of the park, and the construction of the road cut off the neo-renaissance station hall from the town.
The station is an international transport hub, handling services to Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Croatia in summer. Services are operated by express trains, and also by ČD Class 680 Pendolino trains.
This video begins with exterior shots of the station building, a shot of a Deutsche Bahn replacement bus service, and is then followed by architectural interior shots, following these the main feature of the video is the trains themselves, these are a number of local, regional, national and international rail services both arriving and departing as well as light engines and shunters. These include the following trains: ČD Class 150, ČD Class 371, ČD Class 111, ČD Class 151, ČD Class 362, ČD Class 163, ČD Class 814 regionova, ČD Class 971 CityElefant, Skoda built ČD Class 380, ČD Class 162 REGIOJET, and ČD Class 680.

Heuriger - Viennese Wine Taverns
One of the attributes that singles out Vienna is the fact that it is a wine-growing capital! Homegrown wines are served on the outskirts of the city and both the taverns and the surroundings are famous for their quaint ambience.

Mostviertel - regiunea tentatiilor
Regiunea Mostviertel se află în Austria Inferioară, la aproximativ 120 km în vestul Vienei. Mostviertel este un refugiu înfloritor al deliciilor, între Dunare şi muntele Ötscher. Contrastul încântător între zona lină şi fertilă din partea nordică şi lumea alpină sălbatică din sud, te atrage la diferite excursii de descoperire, aventuri montane şi vacanţe familiale distractive.
În partea de sud a Dunării regiunea este caracterizată prin dealuri line. Aici este ţinutul Baronilor Mustului, a producătorilor de vin şi schnaps şi a fermierilor. Aici sunt cultivate perele, din care producătorii obţin mustul de pere.
Dar Mostviertel are si o zona salbatica cu stânci bizare, chei adânci, ape înspumate şi trei parcuri naturale -- lumea alpină din jurul munţilor Ötscher, Hochkar, Dürrenstein, Gippel şi Göller. Vara, munţii de aproape 2000 m, sunt îndrăgiţi de drumeţi şi de iubitorii naturii. Aici a fost tărâmul fierarilor. Astăzi, muzeele şi traseele tematice din Parcul Cultural Eisenstrasse (Drumul Fierului) spun poveşti despre acele vremuri.
