West of downtown is the Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna's most frequented attraction. The name comes from the fountain in the midst of the baroque garden. Once chosen by Maria Theresa as a summer residence, it was used as imperial summer residence until the end of the Habsburg monarchy in 1918. The portico on a hill in front of the castle is called Gloriette.
The Karlsplatz - Charles' Square - is one of the main traffic hubs in Vienna. The two Art Nouveau pavilions marked once the entrances of the Viennese Stadtbahn (city rail). The square is dominated by the St. Charles Church. The reason for the planning of the church in 1713 was a vow of Emperor Charles VI during the plague epidemic. The fountain in front of the church is decorated with a sculpture by Henry Moore.
The parliament with the pillar of Pallas Athena represents the present-day Republic. As the goddess of wisdom and patron of the arts and sciences she may watch over Austria. Right next is the neo-Gothic town hall with the offices of the mayor and the council.
Adjacent to the City Hall is the University - the Alma Mater Rudolphina - named after its founder Duke Rudolf IV and opened in 1365. In the direct vicinity is the Votive Church. Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, the later Kaiser of Mexico, has built the church in 1854 in the memory of a failed assassination of his brother Emperor Franz Joseph.
The twin buildings - in Renaissance style - of the Art- and the Museum of Natural History house the largest and most significant art and natural history collection in Austria. Between the two buildings, a huge monument with the statue of Maria Theresa was erected.
Belvedere Palace is within walking distance to the southeast. The baroque palace complex, established on behalf of Prince Eugene by Lukas von Hildebrandt, houses the Austrian Gallery Belvedere today. Here the Austrian State Treaty was signed in 1955.
Following the eastern part of the ring is the city park. The statue of Johann Strauss (son) is one of the most photographed motifs in Austria.

CRAZY AUSTRIA EXPERIENCE! (Salzburg, Hallstatt & Vienna) | #EUnemployed2017
Sorry for the crazy ass editing at the first part! Those Salzburg clips were so long (and kinda boring lmao I sucked [more] - at taking videos - about five months ago wahahahhaa).
------------------------------
We are such weirdos (we're proud & we love it, hahahahaha!)
So we had a good week in Austria! We first went to Salzburg, and then took a day trip to Hallstatt--the salt town, is what it's called, I think? And we got on the wrong train AGAIN going to Hallstatt LMAO.
Anyway, both cities/towns were really awesome, though! Very rich in history and culture. Especially Hallstatt, which was really small, there's a lot of Austrian realness in that small town hahahha (really suck at giving describing stuff, I should work on this more!)
Actually I think the whole of Europe has LOOOOOOOTS of history and culture, or whutevah.. but I think you get what I'm trying to say? I mean, Mozart was born in Salzburg so that's something! And then The Sound of Music was shot in a lot of locations throughout Salzburg---history, arts & culture!!! HAHA
Anyway, Vienna is really beautiful as well!!!! Like... really awesome. I wish we stayed longer! (Now I know... one month isn't enough to explore at least eight countries and tens of cities!) There were beautiful castles, gardens, and museums.. lots of other places we weren't able to check out.
BUT DAMN. Real crazy week in Austria. There's other clips that I couldn't put in here, some of them I lost (lol), some I just shouldn't have filmed, but DAMN. (HAHAHAHA YA FEEL???) Although I feel like you guys would think the title and the video don't match, trust me, they do.. there's just some stuff that you can't put online, YA FEEL? But it was crazy in terms of how many times we got lost, the things we did, encounters we got into and all that crap-a-doo, lmao.
It's been real, Österreich! Will definitely come back--soon, hopefully.

Hohensalzburg Fortress in Salzburg, Austria
Salzburg – the city of Mozart – is overlooked by the walls of Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of the largest existing 11th century fortress complexes in Europe. This imposing monument is a remarkable sign of the desire for recognition expressed by the prince bishops - and a demonstration of the political authority and power they held. The fortifications were built to protect the prince bishops and the principality itself from attack. Actually, the fortress never faced a real siege. Most of the time the prince bishops lived in the palace at the heart of Salzburg town known as the ‘Residenz’.
The steep cone-shaped rock had already been seen as strategically beneficial vantage point on the northern edge of the Alps for centuries. In 1077 the archbishop of the time, Gebhard I of Helffenstein, ordered the erection of a castle above the city of his residence. Building work was triggered by an investiture dispute between the German emperor, Heinrich IV, and Pope Gregor VII, who was supported by the archbishopric of Salzburg.
Although Archbishop Gebhard was forced into exile in 1085, his successors completed the building. Fortress Hohensalzburg was constructed in three main phases, responding to the development of powerful weaponry with an ever greater range by further fortifying the castle. Intensive building work under the rule of Archbishop Leonard von Keutschach around 1500 completed the fortress as it can be seen today. In 1501 under his regency the ‘Upper Level’ was developed into a ‘pallas’, cisterns were installed and the existing towers raised.
