Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Trent city, with his rich historic city center.
WHAT
Before the Romans, Trent was a Celtic village. It was conquered by the Romans in the late 1st century BC. Romans gave their settlement the name Tridentum as a tribute to the Roman god Neptune. (Actually, the origin of the name is not clear, it could refer to 3 small hills that rise around Trento, called Doss.) Tridentum became an important stop on the Roman road that led from Verona to Innsbruck. In the 16th century, the city was the location of the famous “Council of Trent”. Formerly part of Austria-Hungary empire, it was annexed by Italy in 1919.
With almost 120,000 inhabitants, Trento is one of the largest city.
What to see:
- Duomo (Cathedral of Saint Vigilius) is a Gothic cathedral of the twelfth century, built on top of a late-Roman basilica.
- Palazzo Pretorio, next to the Duomo, dates back to the 12th century, with a bell tower.
- Buonconsiglio Castle includes a museum and the remarkable Torre dell'Aquila.
- Palazzo delle Albere is a Renaissance villa next to the Adige river built around 1550, and now host a modern art museum.
- MUSE is the museum of science and natural history, planned by Renzo Piano and opened in 2013.
WHY
But why visit Trento?
As you have seen, the city offers a rich historical heritage, in a comfortable city setting and a panoramic alpine landscape.
But Trento offers a lot of attractions around the city:
Arriving in Trento by car, you will notice vineyards as far as the eye can see; so why don’t visit one of them?
In 40 minutes you can be in Garda lake and in just over an hour you can visit Brenta Dolomites and the village of Madonna di Campiglio (watch my videos on both of them)

Rovereto, Ancient and Modern (EN) - Trentino Alto Adige - Italia.it
The beautiful city of Rovereto, in Trentino, boasts a very long history that is profoundly marked by Venetian domination (beginning in 1412). Most astounding about this city - without a doubt - is its dual soul. The renowned Corso Bettini serves as the conjunction point between the ancient city, represented by its marvelous Medieval center, and the modern city, represented by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto (MART).
This dynamic museum displays over 20,000 works of art, and has attracted 1.5 million visitors in just ten years.

Natural wonders - Terme di Saturnia
The Terme di Saturnia are a group of springs located in the municipality of Manciano, a few kilometers from the village of Saturnia. The springs that feed the baths, which are found in the south-eastern valley, cover a vast territory that stretches from Mount Amiata and the hills of Fiora and Albegna rivers to the Maremma grossetana at Roselle (Terme di Roselle) and Talamone (Terme dell'Osa). One legend, according to the Etruscans and Romans, was that the Terme di Saturnia were formed by lightning bolts, thrown by Jupiter. During a violent quarrel between the two mythological deities, the bolts thrown towards Saturn had missed, causing the formations.

Obersulzbachtal hiking Valley of alpine flowers Pinzgau Austria
We stayed at the Gasthof Postalm 1669m several times to photograph in detail the alpine vegetation in its natural environment at 1700m to 2200m. All plants have been identified by an Austrian Botanist. There is an abundance of bright colourful flowering during spring. The valley presents a magical kaleidoscope of bright colours. They are a wonder to behold and even more so when viewed in detail by macrophotography. About 50 named alpine flowers are shown in this beautiful video.
For full screen viewing of this HD video at the HD setting on your computer, you may want to pause the show and allow the video to load. This may take a few minutes. You will be rewarded by an even more brilliant presentation on your monitor.
