Throughout the first world war, this beautiful mountain range served as a key battlefield for the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies.
It was the Italian Alpini vs the Austrian Kaiserjager for control of the northern frontier of the newly established modern Italy.
For this high altitude combat, Over 1800 miles or 3,000 kilometers of trenches were dug up on the Italian side alone.
A labyrinth of caves carved into the mountains served as a pathway, a launchpad, and a resting place for the over half a million highly trained, unfortunate souls who lived and fought here for over three grueling years.
While Austrians bombed from above, the Italians set explosives from down below, and yet more people died from the cold and avalanches than the battles themselves.
We’re in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and at one point, for many people, it was also the most horrible.
Via Ferrata, or iron road, are systems of cables and ladders that traverse some of the most stunning and otherwise inaccessible territory of northern Italy.
Used to aid the movement of skilled troops in WWI, today they’ll help an eager group of bumbling civilians climb through the clouds.
Despite the weather hindering what’s said to be a breathtaking view of the Dolomites, I’m happy with reaching the top, and knowing that there’s warm food waiting back at the lodge.
For lunch its a thick ham and bean soup, finished with affogatos - hot expresso with vanilla ice cream.
and for dinner its a mouthwatering duck carpaccio, life changing lasagna, a delicious veal filet over proccito-wrapped mashed potatoes, and a chocolate tort shaped like the landscapes we just left behind.
It’s definitely a meal worth fighting for, but just maybe not up in the mountains.

Places to see in ( Verona - Italy ) Porta Nuova Railway Station
Places to see in ( Verona - Italy ) Porta Nuova Railway Station
Verona Porta Nuova is the main railway station of Verona. It is one of the two stations serving central Verona; the other station, Verona Porta Vescovo, is located at the east of the city. It is situated at Piazzale XXV Aprile (25 April) at the south of the city centre. The station is a 25-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride from Arena di Verona. The station was opened in 1852 by the Austrian Empire's Südbahn and, after its transfer to Italy, has substantially been rebuilt between 1910 and 1922. Following the destruction by allied bombings during the Second World War, the present building was reconstructed between 1946 and 1949.
Verona Porta Nuova is a major cross-junction station in Italy: the north-south Brenner Railway connecting Austria and Bologna meets the east-west Milan-Venice railway. The north-south route has been classified by the European Union as Trans-European Network (TEN) Axis No. 1 Berlin-Palermo. The station handles 25 million passengers annually.
The first train to arrive at Verona Porta Nuova was driven by the locomotive Verona on the newly-built railway from Venice which crossed River Adige (River Etsch). The initial station building was a temporary wooden structure; it was replaced in 1852 by a small masonry building. The masonry, however, had an odd shape: a part of its front had eight arched openings, which went further forward than the other part with only three.
Verona Porta Nuova is used by about 68,000 passengers each day and a total of 25 million annually. It is the ninth busiest railway station in Italy. The station area is the centre of Verona's transport network: the Bus Terminal is located directly in front of station building and hosts services by ATV Verona (“Azienda Trasporti Verona”, ATV) to Verona-Villafranca Airport and popular tourist attractions along Lake Garda.
( Verona - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Verona . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Verona - Italy

BALI TRAVEL Ubud | Samsung S8 & Nikon D3300
Things to do in Ubud, Indonesia – activities, hotels, routes, tips, prices.
Ubud must be the place that we loved the most while travelling to Bali. So if you’re planning on going there it must definitely be part of your itinerary.
Ubud is a town of extremes. Some people fall head over heels for its yoga-healthy living-new age vibes, while others find it all a bit too touristy. One thing that can’t be denied is the town’s beauty.
The town of Ubud, in the uplands of Bali, Indonesia, is known as a center for traditional crafts and dance, being home to good restaurants, cafes and streets of shops, many selling goods from the region's artisans.
The surrounding Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes, and for the photography enthusiasts this area is a heaven.
We stayed at the Pertiwi Resort and Spa – a nice and quiet place with amazing views and wonderful rooms. This was by far the best accommodation we’ve had during our trip – at a reasonable price as well!
We’ve had 5 very busy days here, but we managed to see most of the places that were on our list.
Monkey Forest is the sanctuary of natural habitat of Balinese long tailed monkeys which can be visited every day – from 8:30 to 5:30 (at a price of 20 k). Two hours should be enough for your visit here – sufficient to see the park and take photos of the funny monkeys. This resembles an actual tropical forest and as you can tell by the name it is inhabited by tens of monkeys. I would suggest to be very careful with your belongings ( phones, cameras, sunglasses, hats) as they have the bad habit of stealing and some can even get aggressive.
Exploring Ubud Town, Palace and Market. For this one you would need a few hours – half a day even – in order to get an idea of the local vibe and culture. On the main streets you’ll find a lot of craft shops with handmade artisanal products, restaurants and cafes – each with its own charm. The food is very tasty as most of the places use local products as part of their dishes. Ubud Palace is a historical building located close to the market – you could take a tour on the same day as the Monkey Forest – you’ll get the chance to interact with the locals that promote their handmade products. If you have time you can also explore the Ridge Walk.
Ubud’s fame is due to the beauty of the areas that surround it – we tried to explore as much as we could so we ended up having some very busy/ long days. It was exhausting, but very rewarding-we had an amazing time.
Our driver helped us a lot and he tried being our guide as much as possible during our day trip – helping us discover surprising things about each of the places we visited.
We started our trip at 6 AM and the entire journey took around 10 hours. During this time we managed to see all of the below:
- Tegallalang Rice Terrace
- Pura Gunung Kawi
- Pura Tirta Empul
- Tukad Cepung Waterfall
- Tibumana Waterfall
- Goa Gajah
Each of these places deserves an article of their own , so if you’re interested and would like to find out more I’ve included some links.
The following day we decided to try something a bit different so we went on a quad adventure through the jungle- which was way more extreme than we expected. The tour lasted for 2 hours and the price included lunch, as well as transportation from the hotel to the location.
During our last day we visited the Mason Elephant Park – an elephant sanctuary – which was a bit disappointing and I would not really recommend it.
There are a lot of things you can do in Ubud -rafting, exploring the area by bike or scooter, attending one of the temple ceremonies, seeing the waterfalls and even cooking/yoga lessons if you’re into this kind of thing.
The prices aren’t very high, but having so many things to see/do you might end up spending more than you would on other parts of the island. If you would like more details regarding the prices I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
As a whole Ubud is a fascinating place – the people, the culture, the surroundings and I would highly recommend you add it to your list if you ever go to Bali.
