Places to see in ( Riva Del Garda - Italy )
Places to see in ( Riva Del Garda - Italy )
Riva del Garda is a resort in northern Italy, on Lake Garda’s northern shore. Strong winds make it a popular windsurfing destination. In a former fortress, MAG Museo Alto Garda has archaeology and history displays, plus a picture gallery with works from the 15th to 19th centuries. Nearby, the medieval Torre Apponale belfry offers lake views. Santa Maria Inviolata is a baroque church with frescoes and stucco works. Riva del Garda is a bustling Italian town which doubles as a tourist resort, located at the northern end of Lake Garda. This is the dramatic end of the lake, with mountains rising on either side, and Riva sits comfortably on the shore, with a backdrop of lake, valley and hills. Until the lakeside road was constructed, Riva was an important port for communications along the lake's length.
Riva has a town museum (Museo Civico) housed in its moated lakeshore castle (or fortress), the Rocca. The museum contains historical exhibits, paintings and also temporary exhibitions, which can be interesting. Alongside this sturdy fortress is a pleasant leafy park. A little tourist 'train' (trenino) starts here and does a very brief circuit of the town for those seeking more entertainment (it was full of merry pensioners when it passed). One of Riva's most striking buildings is the Torre Apponale, a tall clock-tower which dates to the thirteenth century. It looks down on Piazza III Novembre, the heart of town.
The northern end of the lake is incredibly popular with windsurfers, who take advantage of the strong wind systems caused by the mountains and water. Torbole, just along the lakeshore from Riva, is the principal base for windsurfing. In Riva it is possible to hire boats, or, for a less strenuous way of enjoying the water, there is a long beach suitable for sunbathing and swimming. Walkers can enjoy easy walks around town - such as the stroll along the lake towards Torbole - or longer hikes in the mountains around.
The Museo Civico is located in the Rocca, a medieval fortress with quadrangular bastions, placed on the lake, bounded by a canal with drawbridge. It was the fortress of the noble family Scaligeri (1124), who became the Lords of Verona. It was rebuilt several times and it was used by the Austrians as barracks in the 18th century. It is frequently the seat of cultural activities, especially during the summer months. The medieval Torre Apponale was is a medieval tower first mentioned in 1273, but probably older. It belonged to the first fortress of Riva, that no longer exists. Modifications were made in 1555 and it was raised to 34 metres (112 ft). The Piazza III Novembre is situated between the tower and the harbour. The city hall comprises the Palazzo Pretorio from 1375 (the former cantonal courthouse) and the Palazzo del Provveditore (the governor's palace), built between 1472 and 1485.
The city gates Porta San Marco (11th century), built by the Venetians, and Porta San Michele (13th century), at the Piazza Cavour, are remnants of the medieval city walls. The Porta San Michele has a small battlemented belfry for the parochial church of Maria Assunta. This church was originally a romanesque-gothic building from the 14th century (attested by a medieval relief at its southern side), but was rebuilt in baroque style in 1728. It has a single nave and nine baroque altars. The altarpieces were made by local artists, such as Ignazio Martino Oliari da Riva, Giuseppe Craffonara da Riva and Giovanni Caliari da Verona. The fresco in the dome is by the baroque painter Giuseppe Alberti (1664–1730).
The church Chiesa dell'Inviolata, dominating the Largo Marconi, is considered among the most beautiful baroque churches in Trentino. It is an octagonal building with the belfry next to it. It contains the altarpieces San Carlo Borromeo and San Gerolamo by the Mannerist painter Palma il Giovane. In the middle of the octagonal dome is a Baroque fresco The coronation of Maria in Heaven. Places of geological interest in the vicinity include Tenno Lake, Lago di Ledro (with its paleoethnographic museum), and the Varone falls.

Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda or Lago Bènaco, Latin: Benacus; Lombard: Lach de Garda; Venetian: Łago de Garda) is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north). The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name.
The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Paleolithic glacier. Although traces of the glacier's actions are evident today, in more recent years it has been hypothesised that the glacier occupied a previously existing depression, created by stream erosion 5 to 6 million years ago.
The lake has numerous small islands and five main ones, the largest being Isola del Garda where in 1220 St. Francis of Assisi founded a monastery, in its place now stands a nineteenth-century building in the Venetian Gothic style. Nearby to the south is Isola San Biagio, also known as the Isola dei Conigli (Island of the Rabbits). Both are offshore of San Felice del Benaco, on the lake's western side. The three other main islands are Isola dell'Olivo, Isola di Sogno, and Isola di Trimelone, all farther north near the eastern side.

EN// If the towns along Lake Como are worthy of being shared, the roads we have traveled between those locations as well. We decided to publish the images captured by GoPro for those who want to enjoy them.
In this video you will find images of the short route between Lezzeno and Nesso, you can feel the beauty of it. Being the main road that connects Bellagio to Como, it is still a narrow road with many curves and in this part essentially delimited by trees when we are not within localities.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location and is located in Northern Italy, about half-way between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north). Being easily accessible from the north via the Brenner Pass, the lake is a major tourist destination, including a number of exclusive hotels and resorts along its shore. The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo. The phallic shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Paleolithic glacier. Although traces of the glacier's actions are evident today, in more recent years it has been hypothesized that the glacier occupied a previously existing depression, created by stream erosion 5 to 6 million years ago. The lake has numerous small islands and five main ones, the largest being Isola del Garda. Nearby to the south is Isola San Biagio, also known as the Isola dei Conigli (Island of the Rabbits). Both are offshore of San Felice del Benaco, on the west side. The three other main islands are Isola dell'Olivo, Isola di Sogno, and Isola di Trimelone, all farther north near the east side. The main tributary is the Sarca River, while the only outlet is the Mincio River. If the water level of the Adige river is too high, excess water is diverted to the lake through the Mori-Torbole tunnel. The ancient fortified town of Sirmione, located on the south of the lake, is one particularly popular destination, home to the Virgilio & Catullo Spa Complexes, as well as numerous restaurants, bars, hotels, fashion stores and a market. The picturesque Scaliger castle dates from the 13th century. The Roman poet Catullus had a villa here, and visitors can see a ruined Roman spa named the Grotte di Catullo (Grotto of Catullus) although there is no evidence linking him to this particular building. The sulfur springs at the tip of the peninsula have a reputation for healing catarrhal conditions, particularly those involving the ear. Nearby, there is Gardaland, one of the most famous theme parks in Italy. The particularly mild climate favours the growth of some Mediterranean plants, including the olive tree. Citrus trees can also be found, which are extremely rare at this latitude (46 North). This greatly favored the development of tourism since the end of the second world war. In ancient times, poets like Catulle wrote about the Lacus benacus (the beneficial lake), with its mild climate vivified by the winds. The lake contains a rare species of trout. Salmo carpio, also known as the carpione (carpione del Garda or Lake Garda carpione) is a salmonid fish endemic to Lake Garda. It has been introduced to a number of other lakes in Italy and elsewhere but unsuccessfully in all cases. The population in Lake Garda has been strongly declining, and is considered critically endangered (IUCN 3.1). The main threats are due to overfishing, pollution and possibly competition from introduced species such as Coregonus and Salmonidae. Adult lake trout outside the mating season are silvery with very few black spots on the body and almost none on the head. During the mating season males develop some a dark mottled body coloration. Garda lake trout reach a length of up to 50 centimeters. They live primarily in depths of 100 to 200 meters. They feed on zooplankton and bottom-dwelling crustaceans in summer. Males and females reach sexual maturity at two or three years. The mating takes place every one to two years. The spawning takes place in 50 to 300 meters depth in the vicinity of underwater springs. The maximum age is five years.
Northern Italy (Part 02): Lake Garda & Lake Como // June 2018
For our nine-day trip to Northern Italy in June 2018, we began our adventure in the Dolomites and ended it in Lake Como. During our time exploring the Italian Lakes (Como & Garda), we based ourselves in Varenna. It was the perfect low key town to explore the surrounding area. From hiking to ferry riding, Italy continues to be its picture-perfect self.
