    Whilton is a village and a civil parish in the English county of Northamptonshire. The population at the 2011 Census was 271. The village is in the Daventry district. Whilton is 75 miles northwest of London, 9 3⁄4 miles west of Northampton and 15 1⁄2 miles southeast of Rugby. The village lies 4 1⁄2 miles east of the nearest town of Daventry. The nearest railway station is at Long Buckby for the Northampton loop of the West Coast Main Line which runs between Rugby, Northampton and London. The nearest airport is Birmingham Airport. Whilton gives its name to the nearby Whilton Locks and Whilton Marina on the Grand Union Canal.

    Wild Dayrell was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a career that lasted from October 1854 to September 1855 he ran four times and won three races including The Derby. He was an unusual Derby winner, as neither his owner nor his trainer had any previous experience of Thoroughbred racing. Wild Dayrell was retired to stud at the end of the his three-year-old season, and had some success as a stallion, siring several good winners.

    The Pennine Cycleway is a Sustrans-sponsored route in the Pennines range in northern England, an area often called the backbone of England. The route passes through the counties of Derbyshire, West Yorkshire, Lancashire, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland. It is part of the National Cycle Network . Sustrans founder John Grimshaw calls it 'the best National Cycle Network route of the lot'.The majority of the route follows NCN 68. It also makes use of several other NCN routes including 6, 54, 62, 70, 7, 72 and 1. It has a total length of about 327 miles . The route was opened in stages in 2002-03.
