Best Europe Road Trip | German Fairy Tale Route
Our German road trip continues as we start our first day on the Fairy Tale Route that has taken us to see the real life Rapunzel Tower before making a stop over in Fritzlar to try some local pastries.
This whole route is inspired by the Brothers Grimm tales of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hood and all the classic Disney tales. We end our day before making our way to stay in one of the coolest hotels on our entire trip!

The Bergisches Land is a low mountain range in North Rhine-Westphalia, close to Cologne. It is part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains and shaped by forests, verdant meadows and valleys.
The Bergisches coffee spread, a culinary tradition is still an expression of the warm hospitality in the Bergisches Land.
The Swabian Alb is a plateau in the south of Germany - it is the highest part of the foothills of the Jura Mountains, northern from Lake Constance. The Häußlers live in Schwörzkirch, a small village on the edge of the Swabian Alb overlooking the Valley. Lentils and Spätzle, the national dish, used to be a typical Friday meal in this predominantly Catholic region.
The Schwalm region lies in Germany’s Hessen, north of Frankfurt. The Erbe family live in the artist’s village Willingshausen and run a small pottery workshop. The local cuisine is hearty and down to earth; it is made up of what the soil offers for this was once a poor farming region.
The Harz is a low mountain range through which the German-German border used to run. The Thielecke family made a new start after the reunification between East and West and breed the Harz red highland cattle, and old cattle type with very tender meat. A regional culinary speciality is the Harz cheese, a low-fat yoghurt cheese with an intense aroma.
The Rhineland Palatinate lies between the Rhine and the “Pfalzer” Forest, on the south-eastern tip of North Rhine Westphalia. The many sunny days make for a mild climate – just the right conditions for the organic farmer Michael Groß. He not only cultivates 40 different types of vegetables but also lupines.

RV Travel VLOG, ROAD TRIP Germany Edersee and Fritzlar
In this video we're leaving the Edersee and visit the medievel town of Fritzlar.
I lost almost all of my footage of staying at the Edersee so there is not alot to show about that anymore.
We had also trouble with shooting video in Fritzlar because of my gimbal failure. But with photographs and some footage, you get a good feeling what it looked like.

Idstein, Germany has a very well preserved old town and is very well known for its timber frame (fachwerk) houses. Idstein was first mentioned in 1102. From the 18th to 20th century it was well known for its leather industry.

Half-timbering is a way of constructing wood frame structures with the structural timbers exposed. This medieval method of construction is called timber framing. A half-timbered building wears its wood frame on its sleeve, so to speak. The wooden wall framing — studs, cross beams, and braces — are exposed to the outside, and the spaces between the wooden timbers are filled with plaster, brick, or stone.
Wood is the basic material used in the construction of half-timbered buildings. The characteristic features of this wood, the climatic conditions and the carpenters’ skills are decisive to the dimensions and forms of the half-timbered houses.This building method is extremely ecological, environmentally sustainable and aesthetic.
Europe is full of timber-framed structures dating back hundreds of years, including manors, castles, homes, and inns, whose architecture and techniques of construction have evolved over the centuries.
Half-timbered towns and villages remain a characteristic of the landscape in many parts of Germany to this day. There are many small towns which escaped both war damage and modernisation and consist mainly, or even entirely, of half-timbered houses. Indeed, the country’s more than 2.5 million half-timbered structures are the pride and joy of municipalities and owners.
