Limmen is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Castricum, and is situated about 9 km southwest of Alkmaar. Before 2002 it was a separate municipality. In 2001, the town of Limmen had 5602 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.2 km², and contained 2061 residences. The wider statistical area of Limmen has a population of around 6860.

1. Hortus Bulborum Limmen Limmen
Hortus Bulborum is a Dutch foundation that conserves historic cultivars of spring flowering bulb- and tuber crops. The collection garden of the foundation is located at the Zuidkerkenlaan in Limmen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands, near the historic city of Alkmaar. The collection comprises some 2500 different cultivars, of which 2000 are tulips, 115 hyacinths, circa 800 narcissus, more than 20 irises, 50 crocusses as well as some 20 different Fritillarias. The oldest tulip in the collection is the single early tulip ‘Duc van Tol Red and Yellow’, dating from 1595. The oldest narcissus, the 'Dubbele Kampernelle', also known as Narcissus ‘Alba Odorus Plenus’, has been known since 1602. The oldest Fritillaria: F. imperialis ‘Prolifera‘ should have been mentioned in 1577.

Keukenhof , also known as the Garden of Europe, is one of the world's largest flower gardens, situated in Lisse, South Holland, Netherlands. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually in the park, which covers an area of 32 hectares .Keukenhof is located in South Holland, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. It is accessible by bus from the train stations of Haarlem, Leiden and Schiphol. It is located in an area called the Dune and Bulb Region . Keukenhof is open annually from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather.

The Zaans Museum, established in 1994 near the first Zaanse Schans windmill, is located south of the neighbourhood. With the closing of the Afsluitdijk on May 28, 1932, the Zuiderzee was split in two parts: the waters below the Afsluitdijk are now called the IJsselmeer, while the waters north of it are called the Waddenzee.

Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55 square kilometers in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands. It is situated in the Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and heathlands may have been caused by human utilization of the surrounding lands. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

Duinrell is an amusement park situated in Wassenaar, Netherlands. Its main character is Rick the Frog. It also contains a caravan park and a camp-site. A variety of accommodation is also available including lodges, tents and static caravans. Bike and kart hire is available. The park has its own shop. Duinrell has been critically acclaimed for its attraction park with swimming pool , which has the longest waterslides in the Netherlands. The pool is open till 22:00 on most days.The park is located on the estate of the counts Van Zuylen van Nijevelt.

In the Dutch province of Friesland, the small village and church of Hegebeintum are located on the highest artificial dwelling hill in the Netherlands, at about 8.8 metres (29 ft) tall.

In Friesland an artificial dwelling hill is called a 'terp'.

An artificial dwelling hill is a mound, created to provide safe ground during high tide and river floods. These hills occur in the coastal parts of the Netherlands (in the provinces of Zeeland, Friesland and Groningen), where tides interfered with daily life.

This ended with the coming of dikes. During the 18th and 19th centuries, many 'terpen' were destroyed to use the fertile soil they contained to fertilize farm fields. 'Terpen' were usually well fertilized by the decay of the rubbish and personal waste deposited by their inhabitants during centuries.

The church was built in the early 12th century, as can be seen from the use of tuff, a volcanic stone from the Eiffel Mountains in Germany. The interior of Hegebeintum church differs surprisingly from the usually sober interior of Protestant Churches, and has been influenced by the aristocratic residents of the nearby Harsta State. The memorial panels form one of the richest collections in the Netherlands. These panels, in memory of the deceased aristocracy, are dated from 1689 to 1906, and differ greatly in size and design. Some are highly decorated with symbolic carvings and gilding, whilst others are quite simple.

A very steep slope is all that remains of the original, unique, Hegebeintum 'terp'.

Coughton Court - Daffodils & Tulips

The National Trust property of Coughton Court in Warwickshire played host to this years National Daffodil Society exhibits and coincided with their own Tulip weekend where visitors could cut their own flowers from an array on display.
