Memramcook, sometimes also spelt Memramcouke or Memramkouke, is a village in Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada. Located in south-eastern New Brunswick, the community is predominantly people of Acadian descent who speak the Chiac derivative of the French language. An agricultural village, it has a strong local patrimony key to the history of the region. It was home to Mi'kmaqs for many years and was the arrival site of Acadians in 1700. The Hopewell Rocks, also called the Flowerpots Rocks or simply The Rocks, are rock formations caused by tidal erosion in The Hopewell Rocks Ocean Tidal Exploration Site in New Brunswick. Surfer Rides Petitcodiac Tidal Bore, short version

This is the short version.

A lone surfer, Luc Richard of Moncton, launches his surfboard upstream of Moncton's Bore Park and then drifts and paddles towards Dieppe to wait for the tidal bore. May 18, 2015 is a new Moon day; the wave is expected to be slightly bigger than average. The tidal bore did look pretty good and the clear blue sky combined with the total absence of wind made the water look super smooth. Too bad the wave wasn't strong enough to carry the surfer (while standing) past Moncton's Bore Park boardwalk.

The tidal bore was right on schedule this day, arriving within a few minutes of the 10:45 advertised time. Visitors should be aware that the official Fisheries and Oceans Canada schedule for tides is usually shown in AST (Atlantic Standard Time) and is not adjusted for daylight savings (+1 hour) in the summer!

It is important to note that surfing the tidal bore is not without risk. The turbulence caused by the rising tide can push the surfer onto rocks that border the river in many places or suddenly pull him/her to the bottom. A full body wet suit is also a good idea to avoid skin contact with the Petitcodiac River's chocolate water.

Un surfeur sur le mascaret de la rivière Petitcodiac

Ceci est la version courte.

Un surfeur solitaire, Luc Richard de Moncton, met à l'eau sa planche de surf en amont du Parc du mascaret de Moncton et se laisse dériver vers Dieppe pour attendre l'arrivée de la vague. Le 18 mai 2015 est jour de nouvelle Lune ce qui devrait occasionner une vague un peu plus grosse que la moyenne. Le mascaret était beau et, en plus, le ciel bleu combiné à l'absence totale de vent ont rendu l'eau super lisse. Dommage que la vague n'était pas assez forte pour supporter le surfeur debout sur sa planche devant la plateforme du Parc du Mascaret de Moncton.

Le mascaret est arrivé à quelques minutes près de l'heure prévue, soit 10 h 45. Les visiteurs devraient noter que l'horaire officiel des marées publié par Pêches et Océans Canada est donné selon l'heure standard et n'est pas ajusté pour l'heure d'été (+ 1 heure).

Il est important de noter que surfer le mascaret n'est pas une activité sans risque. Les remous de la marée montante peuvent projeter le surfeur sur les rochers qui bordent la rivière à plusieurs endroits ou l'entrainer au fond brusquement. Une combinaison de plongée intégrale du corps est une bonne idée afin d'éviter le contact avec l'eau chocolat de la rivière Petitcodiac.
