Alaska's Inside Passage (Alaska) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about Alaskas Inside Passage in Alaska.
Alaska's Inside Passage is the title of a fascinating ocean cruise and features the wonders of nature and amazing natural landscapes. It is a journey to the solitude of Alaska and its splendid wildlife. We begin in Vancouver, Canada’s pearl of the Pacific Ocean, along the Alexander Archipelago in the Gulf Of Alaska. Vancouver is a young city full of joie de vivre with captivating charm and European flair, set in a beautiful location and with a mild climate. Next to the snow-white tented roof of the densely built quay near to Canada Place, is the centre of a new harbour where cruise ships from all over the world come and go. Ketchikan is a small town is located five hundred and twenty six nautical miles north of Vancouver and was founded by the Tlingit Indians. In the 1880’s the town based its economy on salmon and wood but today it relies upon tourism. Creek Street is a wooden construction on stilts located along Ketchikan Creek, previously the city’s red light district but now full of elegant shops and restaurants. Since 1900, Juneau has been the capital city of Alaska, the forty ninth state of the U.S.A. Tlingit Indian leader, Chief Kowee, discovered gold in Gold Creek and the gold rush began! The spacious and speedy gondolas of the Mount Roberts Tramway travel up the mountain of the same name with fine views of the harbour with its cruise ships, the Gastineau Channel, the Chilkat Mountains and the Inside Passage. The ice flows of the thirty two glaciers of the Kenai National Park Fjords are now melting faster than they can grow and the fjords are becoming larger. Yet still the landscape is a huge wonder of nature, a remote world of ice and snow. Alaska is the epitome of vastness, wilderness and natural scenery, a unique habitat far from civilization.

This video was created by Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a United States national park and national preserve managed by the National Park Service in south central Alaska. The park and preserve was established in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.[3] This protected area is included in an International Biosphere Reserve and is part of the Kluane/Wrangell–St. Elias/Glacier Bay/Tatshenshini-Alsek UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park and preserve form the largest area managed by the National Park Service in the United States by area with a total of 13,175,799 acres (20,587.186 sq mi; 53,320.57 km2), an expanse that could encapsulate a total of six Yellowstone National Parks.[4] The park includes a large portion of the Saint Elias Mountains, which include most of the highest peaks in the United States and Canada, yet are within 10 miles (16 km) of tidewater, one of the highest reliefs in the world. Wrangell–St. Elias borders on Canada's Kluane National Park and Reserve to the east and approaches the U.S. Glacier Bay National Park to the south. The chief distinction between park and preserve lands is that sport hunting is prohibited in the park and permitted in the preserve. In addition, 9,078,675 acres (3,674,009 ha) of the park are designated as the largest single wilderness in the United States.
Wrangell–St. Elias National Monument was initially designated on December 1, 1978, by President Jimmy Carter using the Antiquities Act, pending final legislation to resolve the allotment of public lands in Alaska. Establishment as a national park and preserve followed the passage of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980. The park, which is bigger than the country Switzerland, has long, extremely cold winters and a short summer season. It supports a variety of large mammals in an environment defined by relative land elevation. Plate tectonics are responsible for the uplift of the mountain ranges that cross the park. The park's extreme high point is Mount St. Elias at 18,008 feet (5,489 m), the second tallest mountain in both the United States and Canada. The park has been shaped by the competing forces of volcanism and glaciation. Mount Wrangell is an active volcano, one of several volcanoes in the western Wrangell Mountains. In the St. Elias Range Mount Churchill has erupted explosively within the past 2,000 years.

RV'ing Alaska's Inside Passage
The adventure begins on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia with a visit to Telegraph Cove, possibly the best place on Earth to view Orca (killer whales). We continue north to Ketchikan, Alaska's first city on the Inside Passage. Here we explore the spectacular Misty Fjords National Monument by kayak and float plane. We also learn about the art of totem pole carving and watch as they are created. A short side trip by ferry takes us to Prince Of Wales Island, which has more than 2,000 miles of logging roads for exploration. The island is also known for its luxury fishing lodges.
Wrangell calls itself Alaska's Hidden Jewel and is paradise for those seeking outdoor adventure! Many say that if you're looking for the real Alaska, you'll find it here. The Anan Bear Observatory is considered to be one of the best in the state and the only place where black and brown bears feed together. We take an exciting jet boat tour up the Stikine River - the last great un-dammed river on the continent - and visit Telegraph Creek as well as the Grand Canyon of the Stikine.
The ferry becomes part of the adventure as we head north through the Wrangell Narrows - the single most difficult navigational stretch on the Passage. Petersburg is Alaska's Little Norway and Southeast's busiest processing port, home to the area's largest fishing fleet. Sitka was once the Russian capital of Alaska and is one of the most beautiful spots on our route. We explore the town's history and native culture. The Alaska Raptor Center offers a close-up at eagles. A wildlife cruise to St. Lazaria Island lets us observe whales, puffins, sea lions and otters. A snorkeling tour reveals Alaska's underwater world.
Juneau is the state capital. The biggest attraction is Mendenhall Glacier, which we explore with an exciting helicopter tour and glacier trek. Some of the best humpback whale watching is within a short boat ride of town. Incredible glacier calving and towering cliffs can be seen at nearby Tracy Arm. Side trips take us to beautiful Glacier Bay and the quirky little town of Pelican.
Our adventure ends with a tour of historic Skagway and more wilderness adventures in Haines, including a river tour, an air boat ride and panning for gold.
