    U.S. Route 129 is an auxiliary route of US 29, which it intersects in Athens, Georgia. US 129 currently runs for 582 miles from an intersection with US 19/US 27 ALT/US 98 in Chiefland, Florida, to an interchange with Interstate 40 in Knoxville, Tennessee. It passes through the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. It goes through the cities of Macon, Athens, Gainesville, and Knoxville. The section that is located beside Deals Gap on the North Carolina–Tennessee state line is known as The Dragon or The Dragon's Tail from its winding course. It is a popular motorcycle and sports car destination. This segment runs from Tab Cat Creek to Deals Gap and has about 318 curves.

    Lake Santeetlah is a town in Graham County, North Carolina, United States, 6 miles northwest of Robbinsville on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Santeetlah—which in turn is largely surrounded by Nantahala National Forest. The town has more than two hundred residences, many of them second homes owned by permanent residents of Florida and Georgia. The town was organized in 1989 as Santeetlah; in 1999, it changed its name to Lake Santeetlah. The full-time population was 67 at the 2000 census and dropped to 45 in 2010.
