Liencres is a coastal town of Cantabria ( Spain ), belonging to the municipality of Piélagos . It is located on the coast 9 km west of Santander , with an altitude of 72 meters above sea level . It stands out for its beaches along the 8 kilometers of coast: Pedruquíos , Somocueva , Cerrias , La Arnía , Portío , Valdearenas and Canallave . These two last beaches are integrated within the Natural Park of the Dunes of Liencres (dunes fixed by a pine forest pine ).
The Natural Park of the Dunes of Liencres is an area of remarkable geomorphological value and landscape that was declared protected space in the year 1986 . In the mountain of the Picota of this locality are archaeological remains of interest like the castle of Pedraja or castle of Hercules, declared Good of Cultural Interest in 2004 , or an important set of defensive structures of the Spanish Civil War , declared Good of Interest Cultural in the year 2008 . Next to La Picota is El Tolío ; both summits belong to the Mountain range of Liencres .
Liencres is governed by the municipality of Piélagos , which has a local office in the neighborhood of the Church, where you can make numerous arrangements without having to travel to the capital of the municipality ( Renedo de Piélagos ). Although for some matters it has a local board ( autonomous local entity ) that is chosen at the same time as the corporation of the city council . The current president of the local entity is Elba Castanedo ( PP ).
Due to its irregular and dispersed settlement it is divided into districts : Somarriba, Las Mazas, El Callejo, Llatas, Cotarejo, Arnía, Somocuevas, Salas, Sorriba, Verán, Las Reigadas, El Pino, Portio, La Iglesia, La Cotera, La Cruz , La Ortera, Manzanedo, El Cutío, El Dueso, Campolagua and La Caseta.

Sardinero is a popular beach located in the Spanish city of Santander, Cantabria. Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio about one-quarter the way along its length, stretching from the Magdalena Peninsula to Mataleñas; two further adjacent beaches are also sometimes included.
Together about 4,300 feet (1,300 meters) long and 260 feet (80 meters) deep, the beach features fine golden sand and moderate waves; it is bordered by a wide promenade running its entire length. Sardinero is lined with hotels, restaurants, and a casino, and is regarded as one of the most elegant beach resorts in Spain.
Santander has some fantastic beaches, and El Sardinero is easily the most popular seaside hangout in town. I love the fun-loving buzz in the air here. Facing east away from the city, Sardinero comprises two brilliant, broad, golden sweeps of silky sand, each about a kilometre long, divided by a perfectly positioned lookout point topped by dainty gardens. There’s a busy café-dotted promenade for strolling, behind which lie grand architectural leftovers from the early 20th century, like the Hotel Real and the Gran Casino. Along with Somo (across the bay), Sardinero is prime Santander surf territory, with wetsuit-clad crowds arriving with the autumn and winter waves.

The Playa de Berria is located in the town of Santona ( Cantabria , Spain ). It is a beach that is in the isthmus that connects the peninsula that forms the mount Buciero (in Santoña ) with the municipality of Argoños .
Playa De Berria 2,200 meters of length are developed between Mount Brusco, to the west, and the massif of Buciero to the east. Its sand is white and fine, has a gentle slope and is decorated with the Blue Flag . It opens to the sea on the north side, to the south are the marshes of Santoña . Through the CA-907 road you can easily access both from Santoña and from Argoños .
Playa De Berria etymology comes from the term watercress , a plant that grows in watery places and can be found in the Santoña Marshes south of the beach. In the seventeenth century it is registered the name of Playa de Berrio , with the characteristic yod epenthetic Cantabrian .
Being a place close to Vizcaya, popular etymology associated it for some time with the term Basque Berria , whose meaning is new. For that reason during the century XX was added occasionally such adjective giving rise to the tautopónimo Beach of New Berria and thus it was collected in some publications. As in many popular etymologies it was based solely on phonetic coincidence, since the arenal was not of new formation and it has been known since there is human presence. Its official name and generalized at present and from at least the XVII century is simply Arenal or Playa de Berria.

Santander -- Live from Sardinero Beach
: Helen Page talks about Burgos and Santander from Sardinero Beach esplanade. Santander, on the north coast of Spain, is famous for its vast stretches of beaches. When a summer palace was built here for King Alfonso XIII in 1912, it sealed the town's reputation as a popular summer retreat:
Well, we left Madrid this morning and after a couple of hours drive we arrived at Burgos, which is famous for its cathedral - it's an amazing cathedral. There's lots of little chapels with beautiful artwork and sculptures and that's where El Cid's grave is. There's a lot to see there. We had a couple of hours and we had to practically rush through the place. It's a beautiful place - it's an absolutely must-visit place. We had lunch in Burgos and then it was a couple of hours drive up to Santander. Oh, another thing, Burgos is on the pilgrimage route, so pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostella route stop in Burgos.
So now here we are in Santander on the north coast of Spain. This region is Cantabria, famous for its beaches. There's lots of stretches of beach and this particular stretch is called Sardinero. Beautiful weather, lots of sunshine.
Actually, there's not a lot of monuments to see here and the main attraction is the casino. It must be doing well as there's a new hotel being built next to it. The beaches are quite crowded, lots of local people. But, it's a bit windy and chilly up here on the Esplanade, so I'm going to walk down there now and see what's happening on the beach.
