The Angel of Peace is a monument in the Munich suburb of Bogenhausen. The architects were Heinrich Düll, Georg Pezold und Max Heilmaier. Of all the monuments in Munich's green open spaces, few are as striking or dominating as Friedensengel, or the Angel of Peace, a bronze beauty in Maximilian Park close to the Isar and Englischer Garten. And one of the best views of Munich can be had from the top of the monument, although you will have to unfortunately be a drone or similar to get up there, but this is what it looks like:
Built to commemorate 25 years of peace after the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71, the monument consists of an open space with fountain, with two staircases leading to the observation deck, above which is a replica of the Nike of Paeonius, a 6-metre statue of the Angel of Peace. The foundation stone was laid in 1896, and the monument finally unveiled on July 16, 1899. The bronze angel fell from the column in 1981, after which it was restored and returned to its rightful place on top of the column.
The Angel of Peace is part of the Maximilian Park and a point de vue at the eastern end of a line of sight forming Prinzregentenstrasse. Next to the Isar, slightly elevated above street level, is an open space with a fountain; this has a dolphin waterspout surrounded by four smaller waterspouts. Two staircases lead to the observation deck . A column 38 metres high and in the Corinthian style is located here, on top of which is a six-metre statue of the Angel of Peace. It is a replica of the Nike of Paeonius.
The Angel of Peace is a reminder of the 25 peaceful years after the Franco-German war of 1870/71. The monument with its small temple shows the portraits of the German Emperors William I, Frederick III, Wilhelm II, the Bavarian rulers Ludwig II, Otto and Luitpold, the Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the generals Helmuth von Moltke, Albrecht von Roon, Ludwig von der Tann, Jakob von Hartmann and Siegmund von Pranckh. In the hall of the temple are gold mosaics which depict the allegories of war and peace, victory and blessing for the culture.
The foundation stone was laid on 10 May 1896; the unveiling was on 16 July 1899. The sculpture of gilded cast bronze was a collaborative work of the architects were Heinrich Düll, Georg Pezold and Max Heilmaier. The Putti Fountain is a work of Wilhelm von Rümann. When the Angel fell from the column in 1981, it was taken away so that the significant damages could be repaired. After having been restored, it was put back on its column in 1983, its leg and both wings having been replaced. The position of the wing is steeper compared to its original state.

Whitby Abbey is a ruined Benedictine abbey overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. It was disestablished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under the auspices of Henry VIII. It is a Grade I Listed building in the care of English Heritage and its site museum is housed in Cholmley House.
In December 1914, Whitby Abbey was shelled by German battlecruisers Von der Tann and Derfflinger who were aiming for the Coastguard Station on the end of the headland. Scarborough and Hartlepool were also attacked. The Abbey sustained considerable damage during the ten-minute attack. The BBC included before and after photographs as part of the First World War centenary.
Whitby Abbey was rendered famous in fiction by Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, as Dracula there came ashore as a creature resembling a large dog and proceeded to climb the 199 steps which lead up to the ruins.
The original gift of William de Percy not only included the monastery of St. Peter at Streoneshalch, but the town and port of Whitby with its parish church of St. Mary and six dependent chapels at Fyling, Hawsker, Sneaton, Ugglebarnby, Dunsley, and Aislaby, five mills including Ruswarp, the town of Hackness with two mills and the parish church of St. Mary, and the church of St. Peter at Hackness 'where our monks served God, died, and were buried,' and various other gifts enumerated in the ' Memorial' in the abbot's book.

Learning How to Speak Hebrew: Basic Expressions

Learning to speak Hebrew is a skill you should work on before traveling to Israel. Hebrew is the official language of Israel. Trying to learn Hebrew will not only help you get around the country and its cities during your trip. You may also use their language to bargain for goods and strike conversations with locals among other things.
Learning the Hebrew language will also help you unlock related ancient and modern Semitic languages such as Amharic, Arabaic, Aramaic, Maltese, and Syriac. When exploring cultures that borrowed their language from Hebrews, it would also help to know how to speak Hebrew. The Landino and Yiddish are examples of people whose cultures borrow largely from the Hebrew language. Whatever your reasons or personal motivations are for wanting to learn Hebrew, the following tips should be able to help you.
1. Study Hebrew. Look for a school, tutor, or Jewish center within your community that offers courses, academic programs, or lessons on Hebrew language. It will cost you but the commitment entailed by these institutions and professionals will push you to learn how to speak Hebrew.
2. Join immersion programs. This non-traditional method will help you learn Hebrew by exposing you to the Jewish culture. After all, the language is still used by Jews and throughout the liturgies of Judaism. If you can wait until you reach Israel, there are several places in the country where you can join these programs and start learning to speak Hebrew. At which time, you will be assigned to live in local households where you will have the rare opportunity to learn Hebrew in an immersive environment.
3. Embrace the Israeli culture. Tune in to an Israeli radio station, download their music, and read a children's book in Hebrew. While traveling in Israel, accessing books written in Hebrew would be easier. You can either borrow books from Jewish Community Centres or buy books from several locations across Israel. One of the best places to get a book in Israel is the book shop near the Central Station in Jerusalem. A children's book should help you learn how to speak Hebrew.
4. Practice speaking the Hebrew r and a khet. These two sounds are widely used in Hebrew language and are spoken differently from when you would try speaking them in English. They sound throaty as in the German word bach.
5. Learn the difference between feminine and masculine words. Much like European and Semitic languages, Hebrews assign masculine and feminine genders to nounds and verbs. Feminine terms are assigned with the syllables ah or it whereas masculine terms lack them.
6. Learn to speak Hebrew phrases. For the purpose of proper pronunciation, the letter h has has been replaced with kh and ch which is how it should be pronounced in Hebrew.

Learning to speak Hebrew can sound complicated, but if you plan to travel to Israel, a basic knowledge of simple Hebrew phrases is enough.
