Thank you for joining me on this stop on my 2017 Journey To Alaska. Today by the use of pictures and video clips we will check out Hope, Alaska.
Currently home to fewer than 200 residents, Hope was once packed with 3,000-all drawn by gold fever. In 1889, a few years before the Klondike gold rush began to lure people north, a miner discovered nuggets in nearby Resurrection Creek. Soon prospectors found gold in nearby Six Mile Creek, and the rush to Turnagain Arm began. According to local lore, this growing community of tents and cabins chose to name their town after the youngest rusher to step off the next boat-17-year-old Percy Hope. Whether or not the story is true, the name certainly evokes the optimism of every prospector who arrived in Hope in search of a fortune.

Northernmost City in America - Barrow, Alaska
Barrow is a small village on Alaska's Arctic coast. It is the northernmost community in the United States, and nearby Point Barrow is the country's northernmost point. The town has a small city center, home to businesses, schools, government offices and the Wiley Post-Will Rogers Airport. Browerville is the city's residential area. What was once home to the Naval Arctic Research Lab is now Ilisagvik College, the only tribally controlled community college in Alaska.
About 60% of the population is Native American, primarily Inupiat, and Inupiat traditions remain widely practiced. Tourists can get a taste of those traditions at the Inupiat Heritage Center.
It is cold - temperatures climb above freezing only 120 days a year. So although there's plenty of coastline, you're not likely to hit the beach while in Barrow.
The North Slope Borough is a bit misnamed around Barrow. The landscape there is flat and desolate, isolating the city from other towns in Alaska.
Although Barrow doesn't look historic, it's actually one of the oldest settlements in the United States. Archaeologica evidence suggests that Inupiat from the Birnirk Culture lived in the area as much as 1500 years ago.

A92A0154 - This is the Point Barrow Long Range Radar Site, part of the Distant Early Warning Line established in 1954 and now part of the North Warning System; you'll see the world's northernmost totem pole here, too
A92A0205 - American humorist Will Rogers and famed aviator Wiley Post died in a plane crash just outside Barrow in August 1935; this memorial pays tribute to both men, and Barrow's airport is named after them

We spent 10 days in Homer and was probably one of our favorite places in Alaska. We met up with a bunch of friends and got to camp with them right on the beach on the Homer Spit. As it normally happens, when we are having fun hanging out, I end up not shooting as much video.

Alaska is such an amazing place, full of so many beautiful places! This short video was recorded in June 2016 at 11pm at night (midnight sun). Moose Pass is located about 20 minutes from Cooper Landing, in the Kenai Peninsula.
