Katwoude is a town in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 2 km north of Monnickendam. Katwoude was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became part of Waterland.The statistical area Katwoude, which covers the area of the former municipality, has a population of around 230.

1. De Hoge Veluwe National Park Hoenderloo
Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55 square kilometers in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands. It is situated in the Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and heathlands may have been caused by human utilization of the surrounding lands. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

The free clog-making demonstrations and the clog museum are one of the biggest attractions at the Zaanse Schans. Wooden shoes are still made and worn in The Netherlands. Most are made with machines but a small number of craftsmen still cut and scrape and shape blocks of wood into clogs. Most are quite practical but many are works of art.

It is about visiting the Swiss cheese maker located near Burgdorf village in Switzerland where this delicate dairy product is made with high quality milk and 1000 year old recipe. Protein: Just one ounce of Swiss cheese packs a whopping 8 grams of protein. Compare that to American cheese at 5 grams.
Calcium: It’s no secret that cheese is a good source of calcium – and Swiss cheese does not disappoint, with 270 mg in each ounce. That’s 22 percent of your daily value!
Lower sodium: An ounce of Swiss contains just 54 mg of sodium, or 2 percent of your daily value. Compare that to the 468 mg in an ounce of American cheese.
Phosphorus: Calcium and phosphorus are critical for bone formation as well as helping to maintain bone density. Swiss cheese contains higher levels of phosphorus than other cheeses.

Visiting this place brought up many nice memories worth sharing. It starts on the farm with a friendly cow and green pastures on the foothills of the Swiss Alps. That picture ended up on the front page of the local newspaper. On the way to the cheese factory we saw a trading post for Swiss Milka cows and the Burgdorf castle.The cheese production takes place behind the glass walls and visitors are welcomed. You can sample many cheeses or buy one. There is a nice restaurant inside the building. All under one roof. Edam's Wednesday Cheese Market

Edam's memorializes it's Dutch cheese market on on most Wednesday at 10:30am - 12:30pm between July & August at Jan van Nieuwenhuizen Square. It's a very popular event.

Costumed farmers row the cheese to town in small boats & unload it at a special quay where it is put on wooden stretchers called “berries”. Then it's carried to the market to set the much haggled price.

The cheeses are then again loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the balance (‘de waag), to be weighed. Next it's transported to the cheese store - by horse and an original cheese carriage - for ‘maturing’.

Until 1922, cheese was traded here this way.

Unfortunately, there was a down pour the morning of our visit & we had an abbreviated version, but it still was a lot of fun .

The locals made you feel like the sun was brightly shining. as they smiled and fed you enough free cheese samples to make you skip lunch & even rethink dinner.
