Křivoklát Castle, Czech Republic - Best Travel Destination
Křivoklát Castle is located in the Central Bohemia Region of the Czech Republic. Křivoklát was founded in the 12th century, belonging to the kings of Bohemia. During the reign of Přemysl Otakar II a large, monumental royal castle was built, later rebuilt by king Václav IV and later enlarged by king Vladislav of Jagellon. The castle was damaged by fire several times. It was turned into a harsh prison and the building slowly deteriorated. During the 19th century, the family of Fürstenberg became the owners of the castle and had it reconstructed after a fire in 1826. Today the castle serves as a museum, tourist destination and place for theatrical exhibitions. Collections of hunting weapons, Gothic paintings and books are stored there. The village of Křivoklát, founded in the 14th century, grew slowly below the castle.
Karlstejn Castle, Czech Republic Day Trip
We take a guided tour to the legendary Karlstejn Castle, the Czech Republic for a Day Trip. What we discovered totally blew our minds!
Karlstejn Castle was founded in 1348 by King Charles IV, who was then the Bohemian King and Holy Roman Emperor. The castle was used to protect the Imperial Crown Jewels and other sacred holy relics after construction was completed in 1365. Karlstejn castle dominates the skyline with a 60 meter high Great Tower and is equipped with massive fortifications.
This is a magnificent castle to visit, and it is less than an hour from the Czech capital, Prague! Whilst you can easily catch a train there, we decided to take a half day tour through GetYourGuide. It was cheap and thoroughly enjoyable. We rate this as one of the top things to do in Prague.

Kadaň old town, Czech republic
Kadan city, Czech republic
Kadaň (German: Kaaden), is a city in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. The city lies on the banks of the river Ohře. Although it is situated in an industrial part of the Czech Republic there is no major industry within the city and people usually work in offices or have to commute. There are two large power plants nearby (Tušimice and Prunéřov). Kadaň is a tourist centre with highlights being the Franciscan Monastery and the historical square with late Gothic Town Hall Tower.
Exploring Prague 5, Karlstejn Castle
Karlstejn Castle is a Gothic fortress commissioned by Charles IV, King of Bohemia, begun in 1348. It has served as a royal castle and vault for the Imperial Regalia, crown jewels and numerous holy relics. Matthias of Arras may have been the architect, but the structure is more notable for it's engineering achievements than it's design.
The elaborate multi-level fortifications and imposing towers are enormous, but fires and wars took their toll and the castle was reconstructed several times. The basic surviving structure is largely Renaissance in design, except for the wooden galleries which are in the French style and were added when the castle was restored in the last century.
The addition of these non-native details is typical of many European castles and palaces as they were restored over the last 150 years, (often by wealthy individuals). In this case, the addition of French details to a Czech castle prevented the monument from becoming a UNESCO site.
