Australia: Travels in Tasmania
Informative and entertaining travel documentary about Australia's island state of Tasmania that covers many of the outstanding scenic, wildlife and cultural aspects of this special place. Your guide, Robert Stephens, takes you to Battery Point, Rektango, Salamanca Market and MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) in Hobart. He then heads to Bruny Island to go on Bruny Island Cruise, then to the 500 acre Inala Conservation Property of Dr, Tonia Cochran. She shows the rescued wildlife in her care that includes an Albino Bennetts Wallaby, a red neck Bennetts Wallaby and a Rufous Bellied Pademelon. Dr. Cochran also talks about her work with one of Australia's rarest birds, the forty spotted Pardolote. The tour finishes on Bruny with a visit to see a wild Echidna at South Bruny Island National Park and Lighthouse, and a dusk vigil to see the the Little or Fairy Penguins at the Bruny Island Isthmus Rookery. The tour heads north to the Midlands towns of Ross and Oatlands, and then on Launceston and Tasmania Zoo to see Tasmanian Devils up close. As the video closes, Robert heads to the Freycinet Peninsula to see Wineglass Bay. Highway 1 Australia's greatest road trip: Ep 14 Red Bridge, Tas
I've travelled to Tasmania dozens of times but never found myself on the Midland Highway. This stretch of Highway One, which connects Launceston and Hobart follows the Heritage Highway through a string of historic towns - Campbell Town, Ross and Oatlands.
We were particularly drawn to Campbell Towns' Red Bridge which may well be the oldest bridge anywhere on Highway One.
It's a magnificent 154-year-old structure, built by convict labour in the 1850s and utilising around 1.25 million locally made bricks. It's estimated that two million vehicles cross the bridge every year, which only makes its construction even more impressive.
About 50km south of Campbell Town at Oatlands, we are again impressed by another historic icon - Callington Mill, built in 1837 and today the only working wind-driven Lincolnshire Mill in the southern hemisphere.
It was restored to fully working order in 2010 and produces exceptional organic wheat and spelt flours thanks to miller Benjamin Paulsen - a real livewire in this laidback town.
Oatlands boasts Australia's largest collection of sandstone Georgian buildings and it's a super-friendly town that welcomes travellers with a free campground on the shores of Lake Dulverton.
A conservation park protects the lake and its flocks of black swans, ducks and migratory water birds, and the lake is stocked with trout. There's a small boat ramp on the Esplanade near the campground and a walking trail that leads around the lake's foreshore too. SUBSCRIBE: The official channel of Australian Geographic magazine.

Highway 1 Australia's greatest road trip: Ep 15 Spirit of Tasmania
Embarking on a trip to Tassie always feels for me like I'm running away and escaping into the wild.
The excitement begins as soon as I'm aboard the Spirit of Tasmania, watching Melbourne disappear and staring out over the ship's wake under a moonlit sky somewhere in the middle of Bass Strait.
Once we hit Devonport, I hardly know which direction to head first - into the wild west, up onto the Central Plateau to peaks and great lakes, or for the east's shimmering blue bays and white sandy beaches.
In the last 20 years, most of my really memorable bushwalks have been tackled in Tassie, and I've ended so many days on the trail at incredible bush camps - sometimes exhausted, usually muddy, but always happy.
After time spent in the wilderness, relaxing in Tassie's historic towns, indulging in great food and lazing about on awesome beaches provides the perfect balance to any holiday.
Suffice to say, I adore spending time in Tasmania, whether over the sunny summer, or during an icy winter when snow coats the landscape and ours are the only footprints on a trail.
On this trip, Highway One led us to some new discoveries: the historic town of Oatlands, a great bushwalking and camping spot at Liffey River Reserve and a favourite lookout on the flanks of Mount Blackwood in the Great Western Tiers. never-ending story(320) - salamanca, hobart, tasmania 16/17 jan 2016
from kitten to tigress
================
people want to have a good time after work. they come out to put their minds out of their bodies with mind bending substances, like alcohol. salamanca night comes alive every friday with the joints filled with drinkers and talkers. and on saturday morning, it turns into a flea market. he likes flea markets. they are spontaneous, you don't know what you are going to get, except the usual foods like hamburger, hot-dogs...
one time, they were at the sungei road flea market. he was looking for some old vinyl records. she asked, why come to this place? so unorganised and things here so ragged, people so hagged.
that's what i like. old things make a lot of sense because they bring up a lot of old feelings, like the old records that remind me of my younger days in a kampung, listening to these old songs from a denon audio system - that big box, sitting at corner of my friend's house. those were the years of huang qing yuan's songs(黄清元- dubbed the prince of music fans
) making the rounds of every household radio in singapore and malaysia. the most famous and popular song was MANLI(蔓莉). accordingly mr huang was a singing prodigy, engaged in the singing business in a very young age. and MANLI was a mandarin art song with the original tune from the Kazakhs in xingqiang. and mr huang was the first singer to turn it into a mandopop song, with the lyrics from a PE teacher in penang chungling high school. the song was very catchy. i liked it very much. how about you? tell me about your younger days.
i was a tomboy when i was younger, i like to climb trees, swim in the river, listen to rock and roll songs, steal my neighbour's chicken....
stealing chicken? that's quite unique for a gal.
what's so unique about stealing for a gal? i thot it's innate for a gal, like stealing a man's heart....
they say, 女大十八变 - a gal morphs 18 times before she becomes a woman, just like what it says in the GE GUA.....
GE - change, evolve,
49. GE GUA
changes, the day will comes as dictated by heaven, will result in trust from the people. extremely smooth sailing , no regret
- changes in a woman is natural.
1st-9: tied up with yellow buffalo's leather, nothing much can be done.
- before changes happen, still a small kid, nothing much can be done except kidding around
6-2: when the time is ripe, changes come. going to war is auspicious. no guilt.
- when the time comes, hormones will take their effects on her whole being.... time to go out to steal a man's heart.
9-3 not a good time to go to war. persistence is dangerous. though changes are inevitable, need to go for it very cautiously. then can gain the trust.
- must not be too wanton in her behaviour. act cautiously when going forward to steal a man's heart.
9-4 no need to regret, be firm on the path of changes which is divine. auspicious
- be confident
9-4: change in a great man is like a tiger which is fierce and intimidating, rewarded with trust before going for divination.
- the changes of a great man(great lady) is so big, it's as awesome as a fierce tiger(tigress).
top-6: a gentleman's change is like a panther's nimbleness. common people begin to change also. going to war is ominous. he who perseveres prevails.
- after big changes, have to slow down(like from tiger to panther), else it will be too much to handle.
