Taranna is a hamlet on the Tasman Peninsula in southeastern Tasmania. Local points of interest include its Presbyterian church, immediately adjacent to the Federation Chocolate Factory, and a Tasmanian Devil park, Unzoo. At the 2006 census, Taranna and the surrounding area had a population of 190.

The Port Arthur massacre of 28–29 April 1996 was a mass shooting in which 35 people were killed and 23 wounded in Port Arthur, Tasmania. The murderer, Martin Bryant, had a subnormal IQ and intellectual disabilities. He pleaded guilty for the incident and was given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole. It was one of the deadliest mass shootings in Australian history. Fundamental changes of gun control laws within Australia followed the incident. The case is regarded to be amongst the most notable massacres in Australia's history.

The Museum of Old and New Art is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. MONA houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Noted for its central themes of sex and death, the museum has been described by Walsh as a subversive adult Disneyland.MONA was officially opened on 21 January 2011. Along with its frequently updated indoor collection, MONA also hosts the annual MOFO and Dark MOFO music and arts festivals which showcase large-scale public art and live performances.

Maria Island National Park occupies the whole of Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, 69 km northeast of Hobart or about 90 kilometres by road to Triabunna followed by a ferry ride. The island has had a mixed history, including two convict eras, two industrial eras, a farming era and, finally, becoming the national park that it is today. Maria Island is a mecca for visitors, providing an array of interests for the daytripper or overnight visitor to the island.

We chose to stay at the Taranna Cottages just 10kms from Port Arthur as it was the closest we could stay with our dog MACKS.
There is a cafe available and a small museum which you can pay to enter and see.
We had Telstra coverage however no Vodafone.
It is pet friendly. The owners were great and we enjoyed a fire and a few drinks with everyone on our first night.
It is suitable for everyone including campers with tents.
Cost was $10 for the night. You can add toilets and power to your stay which would make it $25 per night.
Our stay was 2-3rd February 2017
