Ocre is a comune and town in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of southern Italy. Its c. 1000 inhabitants live in several small villages scattered across the mid-to–low L’Aquila basin, about 15 kilometers south east of Abruzzo’s regional capital. The town hall offices are located in San Panfilo d’Ocre. It belongs to the Amiternina mountain community and part of the territory lies in the Sirente Velino Regional Park. In the Middle Ages, the fortified village of San Panfilo controlled the lower L'Aquila valley and the monasteries of the Holy Spirit and Sant Angelo attracted many pilgrims.
