Vranje is a city and the administrative center of the Pčinja District in southern Serbia. The city has a population of 83,524 inhabitants, while the urban area of the city has 60,485 inhabitants. Vranje is the economical, political, and cultural centre of the Pčinja District in South Serbia. It is on located on the Pan-European Corridor X, close to the borders with Macedonia and Bulgaria. The Eparchy of Vranje is seated in the city and the 4th Land Force Brigade of the Serbian army is stationed here.

    Vlasina Lake is a semi-artificial lake in Southeast Serbia. Lying at an altitude of 1,211 metres , with an area of 16 square kilometres , it is the highest and largest artificial lake in Serbia. It was created in 1947–51 when the peat bog Vlasinsko blato was closed off by a dam and submerged by the waters of incoming rivers, chiefly the Vlasina.
