Westbeemster is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Beemster, and lies about 9 km northwest of Purmerend. In 2001, the town of Westbeemster had 117 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.04 km², and contained 40 residences. The larger statistical district Westbeemster has a population of around 360.

1. De Hoge Veluwe National Park Hoenderloo
Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55 square kilometers in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands. It is situated in the Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and heathlands may have been caused by human utilization of the surrounding lands. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

Three UNESCO World Heritage sites in 40 seconds

The three UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Amsterdam Canal Ring, the Beemster Polder and the Amsterdam Defence Line – are totally different.
But they still have a lot in common. The Beemster Polder and the Amsterdam Canal Ring clearly stem from the seventeenth century, when the Golden Age was at its peak and Amsterdam was expanding as a prosperous and cosmopolitan centre of trade.
The Defence Line, dating from the late nineteenth century, was built for military protection purposes, and has left a unique collection of forts and waterworks in the flat landscape around Amsterdam. At the time, the Amsterdam Defence Line was a highly ambitious and innovative project – on a par with the Canal Ring and the Beemster Polder two centuries before.
